Carmen Pretorius has been nominated for a Naledi Award in the category of Best Performance In A Musical (Female) for her performance as Gabriella Montez in the South African run of High School Musical.

Pretorius is known as one of South Africa's most talented new performers, currently holding the role as "Sophie" in Mamma Mia!.

The Naledi Theatre Awards have been in existence for 6 years and are accepted as one of the premier awards system in South Africa for Live Performing Arts. The Naledi was the initiative of Dawn Lindberg, Chairman of Theatre Managements of South Africa (TMSA), and was administered pro bono as a TMSA pilot project for the first two years. DAC and Minister Pallo Jordan funded Naledi for 2 years ('06 and '07). SABC3 sponsored the Naledi TV Special in 2008
