MY LOW-FAT, ALMOST ITALIAN WEDDING is a comedy by legendary South African playwright, Paul Slabolepszy, set in the crazy world of an Italian trattoria and concludes the 9th Artscape Spring Drama Season. Featuring a cast of leading actors, it runs from 19 December 2013 to 4 January 2014 at the Artscape Arena.

MY LOW-FAT, ALMOST ITALIAN WEDDING is the story of the marriage of Salvatore's and Mavis's daughter Victoria. The day turns into wild comic chaos as chef Alpheus tries to take over Salvatore's ristorante in order to sell pap en vleis. The bride? Will she be stood up at the altar? Has Joey's security company shot dead a "garden boy" at a home or the tenant? Okay, he's black, but at the dawn of the "new South Africa" (1994) is everyone up for change? For Salvatore, even though the day goes malako, South Africa is still the beautiful country and perhaps he will abandon his plans to return to Italy.

"We are thrilled to have a play by Paul. Over the past few years he has been sadly absent from the South African theatre. LOW-FAT is one of his favourite plays and with his unerring eyes and ears he paints a bustling and hysterically funny picture of life at the Tratorria Vittoria. The play is as earthy as the dust of Johannesburg and as exotic as the wine of Sicily," says director Roy Sargeant.

The cast consists of leading award-winning TV and theatre actors such as Graham Hopkins (widely known for his roles in the popular THE LAB and JOZI H amongst others), AnThea Thompson (whose television credits include her roles in MAZINYO DOT Q, MADAM AND EVE and LAUGH OUT LOUD), Hannah Borthwick (best known for her roles in GREAT BRITISH STORY and MANKIND: THE STORY OF ALL OF US), Nhlanhla Mkwanazi (small and big screen actor best known for writing and translating SABC 1's FAMILY BONDS 2 sitcom and his founding of FTHK, South Africa's premier deaf and hearing theatre company and one of the leading workshop facilitators in theatre), James Cairns (well-known actor, writer and director known especially for winning the 2011 Fleur du Cap Award for Best Performance in a One-Person Show, DIRT), Mark Elderkin (one of South Africa's finest young actors best known for his work in DARK TIDE on TV and CHAMP on stage) and Murray Steyn, whose appearance marks his return to the stage after years in university administration.

Tickets for MY LOW-FAT, ALMOST ITALIAN WEDDING range from R50 to R85 and are available at Computicket or Artscape Dial-a-Seat on 021 421 7695.
