The Fugard Theatre's acclaimed production of Joshua Harmon's BAD JEWS has been nominated for four Johannesburg Naledi Theatre Awards. Directed by Greg Karvellas (CLYBOURNE PARK, THE FATHER, CHAMP) and presented by Eric Abraham for the Fugard Theatre the all-South African production played to a sold-out run in Johannesburg at the Auto & General Theatre on the Square in 2016, before returning to Cape Town for a second sold-out season.

BAD JEWS has been nominated for Naledi Theatre Awards for Best Theatre Set Design for Saul Radomsky, Best Supporting Actress in a Play for Ashley Carine de Lange, Best Supporting Actor in a Play for Oli Booth and for Best Production of a Play for Eric Abraham and the Fugard Theatre. Daniel Galloway, the executive director of the Fugard Theatre, comments:

We are honoured to be among the outstanding calibre of fellow nominees, and extend congratulations to all of them. We also heartily congratulate the Market Theatre and Royal Court Theatre for their five Naledi nominations for I SEE YOU. We were proud to be able to bring the play to Cape Town for a sold-out run, presented by The Market Theatre, Johannesburg and the Royal Court, London in association with the Fugard Theatre. We are especially grateful and thank Founding Producer and Owner of the Fugard Theatre Eric Abraham for his continued vision and support to enable us to present world class productions.

BAD JEWS, the Fugard production of which was a South African premiere, explores the dynamics between the devoutly Jewish Daphna who is at odds with her secular cousin Liam, an entitled young man detached from his cultural traditions, following the death of their grandfather Poppy and a dispute over a family heirloom. Caught in the middle are Jonah, Liam's younger brother, and Liam's non-Jewish girlfriend Melody, who just wants everyone to get along. When the group is forced to spend the night in close quarters, hilarity and mayhem ensue in their examination of identity, culture and heritage.

SO RY MISS DAISY with John Kani and Sandra Prinsloo is on at the Fugard Theatre until 31 March while FUNNY GIRL opens on 18 April. On Sunday mornings, the Fugard Bioscope screens the best of world theatre, opera and ballet productions. Other forthcoming productions include HEMELRUIM from 25 April and the iconic South African musical, KING KONG from 25 July. For information on all of these productions, visit The Fugard Theatre's website or contact the Fugard Theatre box office on 021 461 4554.
