CRAZY - Golden Oldies With A Touch Of Bipolar Comes to The Drama Factory

Marié du Toit and Bram Potgieter present "CRAZY - Golden Oldies with a touch of Bipolar", a cabaret featuring popular songs from yesteryear presented with a mental twist. Golden oldies are skillfully woven together with Marié's rich husky voice and tongue-in-cheek accounts of living life with Bipolar as she is superbly accompanied by Bram who brings his distinctive jazz flare to the stage. "CRAZY" will have you laughing, crying and tapping your feet. Come and enjoy a highly entertaining and supremely enlightening performance. Inspired by an unwavering love for songs from the Golden era, and her own personal battle with Bipolar Mood Disorder, Marié du Toit teams up with Bram Potgieter to bring you their brand new cabaret, "CRAZY - Golden Oldies with a touch of Bipolar". The show takes a light-hearted look at the crazy highs and lows of a mental disorder and features great old favourites such as "Unforgettable", "Cabaret", "Mack the Knife" and "Blueberry Hill", masterfully adapted to illustrate the Bipolar theme.

Marié du Toit was born in New York, USA. She grew up in America, South Africa, Australia and Germany, and returned to South Africa in 1986 to complete her BA drama at the University of Pretoria. Marié entered the Afrikaans music industry after winning the SABC Afrikaans singing competition "Debuut '89". She later joined verteran artists, Jannie du Toit and Christa Steyn in the stage production "Skadu's", and recorded her solo album "In Transito". In the late 90s Marié released her Afrikaans Gospel CDs "Op Pad" and "Maak oop die Deur" and toured with her one-woman show "Op Pad Sonder Bagasie". She spent the following years freelancing as a performing artist and teacher of drama and music appreciation. Marié, who had been battling depression since childhood, was diagnosed with Bipolar Mood Disorder in 2008. Her singing career came to a halt when she was hospitalised and obligated to get fulltime treatment. She has since kept a low profile from the public eye, working behind the scenes as a script- and song writer, instructor and voice artist. Marié teams up with pianist Bram Potgieter and returns to the stage with her cabaret "CRAZY - Golden Oldies with a touch of Bipolar".

Bram Potgieter, prominent music director and fulltime recording producer is recognised as a first-class musician, composer and arranger with many years of experience in the local music industry. Bram, who has recorded numerous famous home-grown artists in his "Paarl MuzikFront" studios, has a remarkable musical background that extends from classic to jazz to blues to folk and many more of the various music genres in between. After obtaining his BMus degree in classical piano at the University of Stellenbosch, Bram went on to obtain his performer-licentiate in classical music through Unisa as well as the Royal Schools of England. Bram later turned his focus from classical music to the swing and jazz genres. He is an exceptional pianist and regularly performs with his band "Sincere Swing". In the new cabaret, "CRAZY - Golden Oldies with a touch of Bipolar", Bram brings fresh arrangements and his unique jazz style to the performance.
