By:

With the African Creative Economy Conference launching in less than two weeks, details of a parallel creative events programme Institute will present the African Creative Market (today, 4-13 October) to showcase creative goods and services in greater Cape Town. Cultural events are scheduled for Cape Town's oldest township, Langa, as well as the up-and-coming, central city design and innovation district known colloquially as The Fringe in District Six.

The calendar includes film, including short, feature and documentary Pan-African films curated by Encounters Film Festival, Screen Dance Africa, Short & Sweet and AFDA Film School; music, featuring collaborations between Mozambican, Ethiopian and Senegalese artists in the City Hall and Afro-jazz at the Mahogany Room jazz club; literature, focusing on conversations with Zimbabwean, Moroccan, Kenyan and South African writers at the Book Lounge independent book store and a pop-up book shop in the City Hall; visual arts, with a Pan Africanthemed exhibition on display at the Union House art hub in Commercial Street; and the Maboneng Township Arts Experience, an art experience that will turn ten homes on Rubusana Street, Langa, into public art galleries for the weekend only. Rubusana Street will also become an open street car-free corridor.
