Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra lights up the stage at the Maynardville Open-Air Theatre this season. The play will have its final performance on February 20.

For centuries, this tale of the last Queen of Egypt and her torrid, adulterous affair with the Roman hero Mark Antony has captured the imagination. Shakespeare's brilliant parable about Empire and duty in conflict with folly and lust pitches the feminine, the fluid, the intuitive and the imagination in an all out battle with the masculine, reason, order and Empire-building. With soaring style and searing poetry he mourns the outcome and loss.

Antony and Cleopatra is considered to be one of Shakespeare's supreme imaginative achievements with Cleopatra his most compelling female role. Marthinus Basson and a cast of award winning actors bring this year's Shakespeare-in-the-Park to life.
