ANGELS ON HORSEBACK: RELOADED Set to Play At Alexander Upstairs

Cape Town 's favourite rude, raunchy and rocking country cabaret will be reborn when ANGELS ON HORSEBACK: RELOADED opens at the Alexander Bar's Upstairs Theatre later this month.

ANGELS ON HORSEBACK has been "reloaded" by the outrageously talented award-winning Daneel Van der Walt (THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW, DANI AND THE LION) and the sexy and sassy queen of DIRTY WORDS, Alicia McCormick (AN ABSOLUTE TURKEY, THE THINGS YOU LEFT BEHIND). Country takes on a whole new meaning in this daring , dirty and delicious live musical, with hilarious original songs that give country music a makeover, a slap down - and an ass-kick. They are guaranteed to get your house back, your heart un-broke and quite possibly your tongue in his ...er... your cheek.

In the saddle, directing, is original "horseback" rider Fiona du Plooy, who also handles choreography and movement direction for the show, using her signature evocative visual style, comprehensive movement vocabulary and extensive knowledge of ballet and contemporary dance. In between creating a water ballet for Nicola Hanekom 's BETESDA, whipping Not the Midnight Mass into into chorus line shape, Infecting the City with art and braving the outdoors on award winning site specific LAND VAN SKEDELS, Du Plloy has also choreographed over 30 films and commercials over the past decade, including the iconic "Ice Ice Baby" Castle Light campaign. She will serve as the répétiteur on Janni Younge's re-imagining of THE FIREBIRD this year.

Musical direction for ANGELS ON HORSEBACK will be by Jonathan Tait, a musician from the live music scene in the Mother City for whom this will represent a second foray into the world of musical theatre. Tait and pianist David Lubbe will accompany Gene Kierman and Jaimie Jupite's original compositions to Fiona du Plooy and Candice D'Arcy's writing. The costume design for the show will be handled by Anya Kovacs of The Velvet Letter and Alicia McCormick, based on the original Fleur de Cap Theatre Award-winning designs.
