Washington Pavilion Receives $24K IMLS Museums for America Grant

On September 15, 2016 the Institute and Museum Library Services (IMLS) announced $21 Million was awarded through its largest museum grant program to help museums improve service to the public. The Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science will receive $24,500 in funding from the IMLS Museums for America Grant program.

Washington Pavilion Visual Arts Center Welcomes Stroller Tours

The Washington Pavilion's Visual Arts Center is introducing a new program called Stroller Tours. Stroller Tours offer parents, guardians and caregivers and their pre-toddler-age (18 months and younger children) an opportunity to experience the museum's current exhibits with their young children in tow.  These tours, led by the center's knowledgeable Museum guides, are on the 3rd Tuesday of each month and run from 10:30-11:15 a.m. Participants can expect casual and lively adult conversation where no one minds if a baby lends his or her opinion with a coo or a cry. There is no cost to participate in Stroller Tours.

SDSO's Principal Oboist Receives Ford Musician Award for Excellence in Community Service

Jeffrey Paul, principal oboist for the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra (SDSO) is one of only ve exemplary musicians selected by The League of American Orchestras to receive The Ford Musician Award for Excellence in Community Service. A new program made possible by Ford Motor Company Fund, the awards celebrate orchestra musicians and the essential work they do in their communities. Five orchestra musicians were selected to receive awards by a panel of industry professionals through a competitive nomination process. They include a $2,500 grant to each musician, as well as an additional $2,500 grant to their home orchestra to support professional development focused on community service and engagement for its musicians.

?Washington Pavilion Board of Trustees Chair, Angie Haft, announced today that the search for a new Washington Pavilion President & CEO has come to an end, and the Board is pleased to announce that Darrin Smith has accepted the position. Throughout the search for the new President & CEO, Haft was reminded that Sioux Falls is full of talented, capable individuals.  Haft shared that, "The committee met with so many smart and interesting people.  But when we met with Darrin, we quickly determined that he possessed a unique combination of skills, abilities and professional background that make him an ideal leader for the Pavilion."
