Visual Arts Center Opens New South Dakota Gallery

By:

The Washington Pavilion introduces a new gallery in its Visual Arts Center (VAC) featuring all South Dakota artists. The South Dakota Gallery is now open with a show entitled Land of Infinite Variety.

The gallery includes seven artists: Russ Duerksen, Jim Green, Mary Groth, Karen Kinder, Areca Roe, Joshua Spies and Tory Stolen.

Jason Folkerts, Director of Exhibits & Collections explains, "The South Dakota Gallery is the culmination of over a year's work of dreaming, we have wanted a special gallery in the Visual Arts Center that speaks directly to the vitality and vibrancy that is South Dakota, to highlight both our best artists and the work that celebrates the beauty and diversity of our state in all its many forms."

Several of the artists will be attending a gallery talk and reception on Friday, October 5 at 6:30 p.m. to talk about their pieces and the inspiration behind them. The event is open to the public.

According to Folkerts, the South Dakota Gallery will continue to offer new themes and artists throughout the year.

"We are very proud to open this new space to the public. We hope it inspires not only the residents of our state but also the many visitors who travel here for business and pleasure."

The Washington Pavilion Visual Arts Center, accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, is dedicated to building, preserving and conserving its collections for both South Dakotans and worldwide audiences.

The Visual Arts Center is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and on Sunday from noon - 5 p.m. On the first Friday of every month, the Visual Arts Center is open 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.; admission is free to all from 5-8 p.m. Admission is always free to Washington Pavilion members.
