National Director of the Levitt Foundation to Visit Sioux Falls

Sharon Yazowski, Director of the Levitt Foundation in Los Angeles, CA will visit Sioux Falls Sept. 19-20. As part of her visit, she will be the featured guest at a public Coffee & Conversation event hosted by the Sioux Falls Arts Council and Downtown Sioux Falls.

Members of the public are invited to attend: September 19 at 10 AM. Meeting Room A of the Downtown Library

Yazowski will give a short presentation at 10 A.M. and, along with Don Kearney, Director of Parks and Rec and Jennifer Kirby, leader of the local Friends of Levitt organization, will then engage in conversation with attendees.

Background: The Levitt Foundation has committed to long-term support of the development and operation of the Levitt Shell outdoor performance venue for which construction begins in spring 2018 at the current location of Falls Park West.

The Levitt Foundation's investment in communities across the country requires a partnership with a local non-profit organization and municipal government. In Sioux Falls, that partnership is with the Friends of Levitt Shell Sioux Falls and the City's Parks and Recreation Department.

A 501(c)(3) organization, the Sioux Falls Arts Council serves the entire community through coordination, accessibility and cultivation of the arts and culture in the greater Sioux Falls area. It connects residents, tourists and individual creatives to arts opportunities and experiences emphasizing the categories of performing, visual, musical and literary arts. Founded in 1969, the Sioux Falls Arts Council has adapted to the needs of the greater Sioux Falls area over the last five decades. In 2017, it is in the midst of transitioning from the creation of direct programming to fulfillment of critical functions such as representing the arts and culture sector in community development, serving as a vehicle for public positioning of this sector, and capacity building for the arts.
