Souvenir takes us back to 1964 where pianist Cosmé McMoon recounts the real-life musical career of one of History’s most unforgettable Opera Stars, Florence Foster Jenkins. She was an outlandish and wealthy socialite who believed in in the importance of sharing her “enchanting voice” with the world. Unfortunately, the ugly truth is Jenkins couldn’t sing! This did not stop her and the unlikely duo went on to hold sensational recitals even producing a sold-out performance at Carnegie Hall!
This play with music by English author, Stephen Temperley, was performed on Broadway in 2005-2006 before becoming one of the most-performed shows in the United States. Souvenir was especially popular in Europe where it was performed at prestigious theatre festivals such as "Coup de Coeur", the Avignon Festival Off 2012, at the Théâtre du Ranelagh.
Souvenir will make you laugh till you cry! Join us for this amazing show. Under the direction of award-winning director Samantha Scott-Blackhall, this hilarious & tuneful two-character play starring Hossan Leong & Leigh McDonald beguiles the hopeful artist that lives in everyone!
Souvenir in the media :
"SOUVENIR is downright hilarious…Temperley has brought to this his own sense of mirth as well as a sensibility that doesn't settle for mere mirth. - Boston Globe.
"…an unexpectedly gentle and affecting comedy." - NY Times.
"Tone-deaf but utterly pitch-perfect. What is extraordinary about SOUVENIR is that Temperley has made Jenkins, for all her foolishness, a remarkably sympathetic woman..." - NY Daily News.
