Portland Center Stage at The Armory debuts its new Northwest Stories series with Jeanne Sakata's Hold These Truths, a play inspired by the life of civil rights hero Gordon Hirabayashi, a Seattle native who was posthumously awarded the 2012 Presidential Medal of Freedom. Hold These Truths opens in the Ellyn Bye Studio on October 7, with previews beginning October 1 and performances running through November 13. Hold These Truths will be directed by Jessica Kubzansky, who directed the world premiere at East West Players in Los Angeles. Actor Ryun Yu, who originated the role of Hirabayashi at East West Players, will once again play the role in Portland.

The European premiere of Rex Pickett's acclaimed comedy SIDEWAYS opens tonight at St James Theatre, directed by David Grindley, for a limited run until July 9. The cast features Daniel Weyman (Miles), Simon Harrison (Jack), Ellie Piercy (Maya), Beth Cordingly (Terra), Anne Kavanagh(Phyllis/Evelyn), Kirsten Hazel Smith (Rosie/Victoria) and Daniel Barry (Chris/Daryl).

This Off Broadway engagement will be performed at the Ohio Theatre, 66 Wooster Street (between Spring and Broome Streets). Previews begin on Wednesday, October 28, and the official Opening Night will be Monday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m. Performances will run through November 21.

Marion, features Lucille Lortel and Obie Award winning actor Arthur French, who recently performed on Broadway in Horton Foote's Dividing The Estate. The Book of Lambert runs from February 13th to March 1st, 2009 in a limited engagement at the historic La MaMa e.t.c. as part of their Black History Month celebration. Lambert previews on February 13th and officially opens on February 14th, Valentines Day.

On Wednesday June 11, 2008 the Theatre World Awards for Outstanding Broadway or Off-Broadway Debut performances during the 2007-2008 theatrical season took place. The awards were presented by former Theatre World Award winners, including: Alec Baldwin (Loot, 1986), Griffin Dunne (Search and Destroy, 1992), Alexander Gemignani (Assassins, 2004), Andrea Martin (My Favorite Year, 1993), Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights, 2007), Rosie Perez (References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot, 2001), and B.D. Wong (M. Butterfly, 1988). There were also be performances by former Theatre World Award winners, including: Karen Akers (Nine, 1982), Cheyenne Jackson (All Shook Up, 2005), Carol Lawrence (West Side Story, 1958) and Alice Playten (Henry, Sweet Henry, 1968).
