The Theatre Group at SBCC concludes the 17/18 season with the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, CRIMES OF THE HEART by Beth Henley.

Just last night, Virginia's Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre honored legendary Broadway producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh (The Phantom of the Opera, Cats, LES MISERABLES) with the company's eighth Stephen Sondheim Award. The award, established in 2009, is given to an individual for his or her career contributions to interpreting, supporting, and collaborating on Stephen Sondheim's music works.

Ed Graczyk's 1976 drama 'Come back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean' has a simple premise: It's September 30, 1975, and a small town dime store in West Texas is hosting the reunion of a James Dean Fan Club to mark the 20-year anniversary of Giant, which was filmed nearby. The underlying premise is you can't go home again.

From 1941 to 1976 New York City subway and bus riders were treated to more than 9,000 posters of 200 attractive young women all dubbed 'Miss Subways' for the month. The women on the posters were the faces of New York. They were wartime nurses in the 1940s, college girls studying to become teachers in the 1950s, and secretaries who dreamed of singing careers in the 1960s. These amazing girls shared their stories and the hopes and dreams of their generation at the legendary Friars Club. Friar Stewie Stone created some extremely funny moments as he interviewed Miss Subways, and 'The Copa Boys' performed some Four Seasons tunes.

Taproot Theatre asks soul searching questions about faith, justice and family with Matthew Lopez's highly acclaimed The Whipping Man, which opened last night, March 29 and runs through April 27, 2013. Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) continues its 2008/2009 Season with the New York premiere of THE SAVANNAH DISPUTATION, a new play by Evan Smith (Psych and The Uneasy Chair at Playwrights Horizons, Remedial English for the Young Playwrights Festival at Playwrights Horizons, Servicemen at The New Group). This will be Mr. Smith's fourth collaboration with the theater company. Directed by Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie (Chicago, New Jerusalem), in his Playwrights Horizons debut, the production will began previews on Friday, February 6, 2009 with an Opening Night set for Tuesday, March 3 at 7PM. The limited engagement will run through Sunday, March 15 at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street).
