'Urinetown: The Musical' opened on Broadway in 2001, but its path from lyricist Greg Kotis traveling Europe, encountering a pay toilet, getting an idea for a story, joining with Mark Hollman, writing the lyrics together, Hollman writing the music, previewing the show at the New York's Fringe Festival, and getting it on Broadway, was filled with pitfalls. Mainly, producers were turned off by the title.

Civic Theatre continues its 2014-2015 main stage season with the Lehigh Valley premiere of the hilarious, meta-theatrical 2004 musical, '[title of show]' on Friday, February 13 with performances through Sunday, March 1. Civic's Artistic Director William Sanders directs. Jason Sizemore serves as assistant director. Justin Brehm serves as musical director. All performances will be held at Civic's historic Nineteenth Street Theatre at 527 N. 19th Street in Allentown. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!

Truth, well maybe the truth, can be stranger than fiction. According to the show, itself, the musical '[title of show],' yes, that's the title of the show, which is now appearing on stage at Beck Center's Studio Theater, was conceived when one of the script's authors received an announcement about a musical festival. The New York Musical Festival, to be exact. The NYMF was in search of new musical scripts.

In celebration of Disney's Beauty and the Beast's 20th anniversary on the stage, Disney Theatrical Productions, NETworks and Broadway Entertainment Group will present the first-ever international tour for the title. The English-language tour will open at Istanbul's Zorlu Center in October 2014 and will tour to diverse international markets including Kazakhstan, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia marking the first time Disney's timeless musical will have been seen in these territories. The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) began earlier this week on July 8th and will continue through July 28th. There's a new generation of musical theater mavericks taking New York City by storm. The days of the standard musical are waning and the genres as you know them are bending into exciting hybrids. From rock music to interactive productions and quirky subject matter, these pioneers are breaking the barriers of the traditional musical by creating original productions that vibrate with today's savvy and diverse audience. Just last night, SAG Foundation & Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation presented The New Generation of Musical Theatre- a special panel discussion at Baruch Performing Arts Center.

Vineyard Theatre's Developmental Lab Production of THE LANDING (previously titled 'Andra') -- a collection of three related one-act musicals written by the celebrated composer John Kander and his new collaborator, Greg Pierce -- will be presented under the direction of Walter Bobbie, May 15-June 3 at The Vineyard (108 E. 15 St.). On Monday, June 21, New York Musical Theatre Festival hosted their 'Best of Fest' Gala. The event celebrated NYMF alumni and introduced some of the new projects NYMF alums are working on now.

[title of show] is a musical about two guys named Jeff and Hunter by two nobodies named Jeff and Hunter.In 2004, the real Jeff and Hunter decided to enter the inaugural New York Music Theatre Festival (NYMF). The problem was, they didn't have a musical. With a deadline set, three weeks later they entered [title of show], named after the first line in the festival application form. Following its debut at NYMF, [title of show] enjoyed an acclaimed run at the Vineyard Theater Off-Broadway in 2006, and the release of an Original Cast Album that same year. They fulfilled their Broadway aspirations July 2008, where [title of show] ran for over 100 performances starring the writers themselves. The Magnormos season is the first production outside of the USA.

The Vineyard Theatre (108 East 15th Street) presents the New York premiere of The Civilians' newest work This Beautiful City, in a co-production with Los Angeles' Center Theatre Group, with previews began February 3 prior to its official press opening February 22. Steven Cosson directs.

THE NEW YORK CITY GAY MEN'S CHORUS launched its 29th season with a time-honored New York tradition: under the Artistic Direction of Charles Beale, NYCGMC presented The New York City Gay Men's Chorus Holiday Spectacular 'Celebrate Me Home' at Carnegie Hall on Tuesday December 9th. The special guest stars for the evening were the cast of [title of show], Jeff Bowen, Hunter Bell, Susan Blackwell and Heidi Blickenstaff.

On Thursday September 25th, as part of The ASCAP Foundation's NYMF Seminar Series, the cast of [title of show] discussed the highs and lows of guiding their musical from the New York Musical Theatre Festival to Broadway, there was also a performance and cd sigining as part of the evening. The event took place at Barnes & Noble at Lincoln Square which is located at 1972 Broadway at 66th Street.
