Rehearsals are underway for Cameron Mackintosh's acclaimed new production of Boublil and Schonberg's legendary musical Miss Saigon, which will return to its original home, The Broadway Theater (1681 Broadway) beginning performances Wednesday, March 1. The original production of Miss Saigon opened at the same theater on April 11, 1991 and played there through January 28, 2001.
25 years after the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical production of Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic children's story The Secret Garden, the Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) and the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle co-presents the timeless tale from November 15-December 31 at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW). Just announced, Alistair Brammer will reprise his acclaimed West End performance as the young American GI 'Chris' in Cameron Mackintosh's new production of Boublil and Schönberg's legendary musical Miss Saigon, which begins performances Wednesday, March 1 at The Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway).
It all started with Marc Oka (an Original Broadway Cast member) who decided to try and gather members of the casts of MISS SAIGON for a reunion. He went to URBO (a fantastic restaurant, bar and venue, in the heart of Times Square) and Manager, Benjamin Ickies, who is also a musician, and BOOM ... the night was born.

Today in 1991, Miss Saigon opened at the Broadway Theatre, where it ran for 4092 performances. Miss Saigon is a musical by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, with lyrics by Boublil and Richard Maltby, Jr. It is based on Giacomo Puccini's opera Madame Butterfly, and similarly tells the tragic tale of a doomed romance involving an Asian woman abandoned by her American lover. The musical premiered at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, in London on 20 September 1989, closing after over four thousand performances, on 30 October 1999.The musical represented Schönberg and Boublil's second major success, following Les Misérables in 1985.
The fall ushers in one of the most stunning Broadway blockbusters of all time, Miss Saigon on stage September 21 through October 23 at the Ogunquit Playhouse. Miss Saigon is set during the turmoil of the Vietnam War, where an American soldier, played by Gregg Goodbrod, and a Vietnamese girl, played by Jennifer Paz, fall in love, only to be separated during the fall of Saigon.
