Tony winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, first worked on In the Heights, a musical that presents a portrait of the Hispanic community in Washington Heights, when he was a sophomore student at Wesleyan University in Connecticut in 2000.

A different kind of 'Lin-sanity' is happening in Manila! Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator, original leading man, and Tony and Grammy Award-winning composer of the critically-acclaimed Broadway musical In the Heights, visited the Philippines for the first time, and led, March 16, Friday night's opening night curtain call for Atlantis Productions' restaging of In the Heights - the show's first ever licensed production in Asia, which features an all-Filipino cast - at Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati City.

Today in 2008, In the Heights opened at the Richard Rogers Theatre, where it ran for 1184 performances. In the Heights is a musical with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes. The story explores three days in the characters' lives in the New York City Dominican-American neighborhood of Washington Heights. The Broadway production was nominated for thirteen Tony Awards, winning four: Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Choreography (Andy Blankenbuehler), and Best Orchestrations (Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman). It was also a finalist for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Exciting, passionate and historical. That's how Michael Balderrama, resident director and choreographer of In The Heights, has described the cast for the Second National Tour of the musical, who started rehearsals in New York last month. A brand new cast has been gathered to bring the award-winning show across the States. 'All of them are fresh, from top to bottom, there's no one who has been on the show before,' Balderrama explains. 'They're young, passionate and excited about being part of ‘In The Heights'. All of them are people who are just inspired by the show'

At Wesleyan University, IN THE HEIGHTS creator Lin-Manuel Miranda first brought his piece to the stage. As they say, the rest is history, and the production seen here would go on to change, evolve, and eventually collect four 2008 Tony Awards - including Best Musical and Best Original Score. Miranda himself says of the clip featured below: 'Nina Rosario's first song in my first draft of In The Heights, which I directed at Wesleyan University's '92 Theater. Chris Jackson, who recently left the company of In the Heights after playing leading man Benny since 2002, was presented by his castmates with a truly inspirational tribute video.
