Few plays have sparked as much controversy as Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House. First staged in 1879, its depiction of a woman rejecting the limitations imposed upon her shocked audiences and helped redefine modern drama. The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland's final-year BA Acting students now bring Stef Smith's Nora: A Doll's House to the stage, an adaptation that reframes the story across three distinct eras. Drawing striking parallels between past and present, Smith's version asks an uncomfortable question: how far have we really come?

Canadian Stage will ring in the new year with Artistic Director Brendan Healy's bold, razor-sharp reinvention of one of theatre's most explosive classics; A Doll's House.

A scandalous drama is still politically potent after 139 years! When Nora Helmer slammed that door in 1879 she told the world that her duty to herself was greater than her duty to her family. Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House has been an iconic inspiration to generations of second-wave feminists. In that simple, strong action Nora--Torvald's 'little songbird'-- flipped the bird to centuries of patriarchy.

As the story goes in Gilbert & Sullivan's 1879 operetta, The Pirates of Penzance, Frederic the pirate has just been released from his indenture to a comical band of soft-hearted pirates when he meets Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley, and falls in love. As the story also goes, in 2013, New Line Theatre's Artistic Director Scott Miller made an extraordinary discovery:  the never-seen-before draft manuscripts for The Pirates of Penzance, which actually-believe it or not-originated as The Zombies of Penzance.

Making its midwest debut at Theater RED, This Prison Where I Live is one in playwright and Director Angela Iannone's four-play Booth Cycle. Iannone's achievement, beyond the work itself and assembling such a stellar group of creatives, lies in encouraging a curiosity for histories both infamous and intimate. 

The Old Globe presents George Bernard Shaw's Arms and the Man, helmed by celebrated director Jessica Stone, who recently made her Globe debut with Christopher Durang's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.

The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team for George Bernard Shaw's Arms and the Man, joining celebrated director Jessica Stone, who recently made her Globe debut with Christopher Durang's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. Shaw's romantic comedy, which continues the Globe's 80th Anniversary festivities as part of the Balboa Park Centennial Celebration, will run May 9 - June 14, 2015 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run May 9 through 13. Opening night is Thursday, May 14 at 8:00 p.m.
