It's a very rare treat—particularly all the way here in Orange County, California—to hear Broadway songs and the stories behind them performed directly by the legendary composer himself, even for just a one-night-only event. But that is exactly the gift bestowed upon a rapt audience recently when the Irvine Barclay Theatre presented DEFYING GRAVITY: AN EVENING WITH STEPHEN SCHWARTZ & FRIENDS to a sold-out crowd on the evening of May 23, 2026.

Theater Resources Unlimited will host a Community Gathering via Zoom focused on licensing, featuring James Rocco and C. Michael Perry discussing legal rights, royalties, and how producers can navigate the licensing landscape.

This May, Regal is showcasing theatrical showpieces with its Musical Mayhem series, with screenings of musicals like Chicago, Funny Girl, Hairspray, and Mamma Mia!, among others. Take a look at the full lineup and schedule below.

When Our 1972 premiered last year, I thought I’d written the next big queer protest drama. But on night one, and in the run that followed, the increasing laughter and swooning from the audience seemed to declare otherwise. Suddenly, it was a rom-com. I was taken aback and, if I’m honest, annoyed. I challenged myself to work out why, and realised I’d been holding back from fully embracing the queer rom-com myself. In talking to others who felt the same, It became clear that queer joy on stage, and the queer rom-com in particular, still feels oddly taboo.

The 1982 film 'Himala,' directed by National Artist Ismael Bernal, follows the story of a barrio Cupang lass, Elsa, played by a young Nora Aunor, who allegedly saw an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary. 'Himala,' retitled 'Isang Himala,' is back on the big screen as a musical film, an official entry to the 50th-anniversary of the annual Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

Frankie Beverly, The Clash, Dr. Bobby Jones, Taj Mahal, Prince, Roxanne Shante, and Frankie Valli are the 2025 Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award honorees. Erroll Garner, Glyn Johns and Tania León are the Trustees Award recipients.
