Iolanthe Revival

The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Houston will present The Gondoliers at the Cullen Theater in Wortham Theater Center, marking the company's 75th season with the same opera that launched its very first production in 1952. Tickets on sale now.

It wasn’t until later on in theatre history that revivals began including shows that weren’t initially well received or financially successful in their initial engagements. As musical theatre continued to evolve, and more shows entered the canon, a consensus began to grow about shows being worthy of additional exploration even if they hadn’t been hits the first time around. What about musicals that had been ahead of their time, musicals that had fallen prey to circumstances, early works by writers who became successful later on, and of course, shows that found an audience after closing via their cast recordings?

The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Houston will present the 1983 movie musical, “The Pirates of Penzance” at the historic River Oaks Theatre, with $5 of every ticket sold benefiting the Society.

The Blue Hill Troupe, the only musical theater group in New York City to donate its net proceeds to charity, performs Gilbert & Sullivan's "Iolanthe," April 8 - April 16, at El Teatro of El Museo del Barrio (1230 Fifth Avenue at 104th Street). All proceeds from the Blue Hill Troupe's production will benefit the Children's Cancer & Blood Foundation.
