Monday evening, November 12, 2018, 8 p.m., The New York Choral Society and Orchestra (NYCHORAL) will present its first program of the season, MY SHADOW AND MY LIGHT, under the baton of Music Director David Hayes at the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall. In honor of Veterans Day and in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War and the 80th anniversary of Kristallnacht, Maestro Hayes has chosen a program that explores how three early 20th-century composers, two British and one American, created works expressing their deeply personal reactions to these profound moments in human history.

An historic performance of Benjamin Britten's War Requiem by The Bach Choir on October 3rd at Westminster Cathedral will be supported by a cast of three celebrities speaking and reading about the horrors of war. The Requiem was Britten's musical plea for peace. He chose The Bach Choir to perform on the first recording of the work almost 60 years ago and now once more they will be performing the work.

Tomorrow, August 25, marks what would have been legendary composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein's 100th birthday. Bernstein's work ranges from beloved musicals such as West Side Story and Peter Pan, to classic operettas like Candide. The author, pianist, and lecturer has inspired generations of composers, songwriters, singers, and artists, including Broadway standout Kristin Chenoweth.

Conducted by world-renowned Polish Maestro Miros?aw Jacek Baszczyk, the concert will feature music composed by Poland's greatest musicians, performed by some of today's leading vocalists and musicians. The performance will commence with an introduction by the Ambassador of Poland, Piotr Wilczek. The 100th anniversary of Poland has significant meaning for the National Philharmonic, which is led by Polish-born Music Director and Conductor Piotr Gajewski. One of the National Philharmonic's veteran artists, Brian Ganz-who will perform at the Polish celebration concert-is also a frequent performer of Frederic Chopin, beginning a quest in 2011 to perform all of the great Polish composer's works. During this celebratory concert, Maestro B?aszczyk will lead the National Philharmonic Chorale, accompanied by Esther Heideman, soprano; Magdalena Wor, mezzo-soprano; Tyler Duncan, baritone; and the National Philharmonic in Krzesimir D?bski's Hussars' Polonaise and Karol Szymanowski's Stabat Mater and Mr. Ganz in Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor, Op. 21.  Ticket prices are $23-$76 and are free for young people age 7-17. Patio Playhouse Community Theater presents The Sisters Rosensweig by Wendy Wasserstein, opening Friday, May 4. This comedy, set in 1991, drops us solidly in Sara Goode's drawing room in London on her 54th birthday, as she awaits the arrival of her two sisters, Gorgeous and Pfeni. Add in the unexpected arrival of a handful of guests (the whip-smart daughter, an ostentatious theater director, a working-class boy boy primed to take Sara's teenage daughter abroad, a 'fun furrier' from Brooklyn, and Sara's priggish banker boyfriend) -- and, well, we are off and running into a spectacle of wit and humor before you can even say, 'Sweetsie, there's always activity in this house!'
