FLASHDANCE - THE MUSICAL, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation, will make its Segerstrom Center premiere tonight, May 7 - 19, 2013.

TimeLine Theatre Company, dedicated to presenting plays inspired by history that connect to today's social and political issues, announces that The How and the Why by Sarah Treem (Netflix's House of Cards, HBO's In Treatment), directed by Keira Fromm and starring Janet Ulrich Brooks and Elizabeth Ledo, will be the third production of its 2013-14 season.

The Department of Theater & Dance at UCSB continues its 2012-2013 season of drama and dance with the production of A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, directed by Irwin Appel. A Streetcar Named Desire performs May 10 - 19, 2013 in the A Streetcar Named Desire performs in the Performing Arts Theater on the UCSB campus, with a preview on May 9, 2013.

Reaching hundreds of thousands of audience members annually, the theater season features a new Kennedy Center re-imagining of Henry Krieger and Bill Russell's Side Show, in association with La Jolla Playhouse with revisions by Krieger and Russell and direction by Academy Award winning director Bill Condon; touring productions of Sister Act, Elf, Flashdance – The Musical, Peter and the Starcatcher, An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin, and Disney's The Lion King; and an international theater festival highlighting renowned companies from around the world. Amphibian Stage Productions today announced casting for its first main stage production of the 2013 season, Fiction by Steven Dietz. Jakie Cabe, Lydia Mackay, and Cara L. Reid will star in this poignant drama, running tonight, February 21 through Sunday, March 17 at Amphibian's theater at 120 S. Main Street. Mary Catherine Burke, a New York-based director, will lead the production.

Thomas Bradshaw, one of this season's My America playwrights, has never shied from controversy. For CENTERSTAGE's second Play Lab of the season, the theater brings together three of the playwright's most provocative works in a festival of readings. Each piece deals with aspects of the "Southern Legacy" in America. A different play will be read each day, January 25-27. Tickets are only $10, and admit patrons to all three readings in the series.
