WaterTower Theatre Artistic Director Joanie Schultz and Managing Director Greg Patterson today announced casting and creative team details for Parade in Concert, Directed by Kelsey Leigh Ervi, with Musical Direction by Scott A. Eckert.

His day job is as associate justice of the Second District, Division Six of the California Courts of Appeal, but Steve Perren's passion for the stage has seen him appear in a variety of shows in Ventura County over the years. He played founding father Roger Sherman in Cabrillo Music Theatre's 2012 production of 1776 and has also appeared in numerous operettas staged by the Ventura County Gilbert and Sullivan Repertoire Company. In Panic! Productions' Parade, currently playing at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, Perren is ideally suited for the part of Judge Leonard S. Roan, who presides over the trial of accused child murderer Leo Frank. Parade deals with the real-life arrest and trial of Frank (played by Joshua Finkel), a Georgia factory superintendent who was accused of murdering 13-year-old factory worker Mary Phagan in 1913. We sat down with Steve during a break in rehearsals for the show, and talked about his unique perspective as an actor who also shares the occupation of the character he portrays.

Commissioned by the Finborough Theatre, Horniman's Choice brings together four plays by the leading figures of the 'Manchester School' of playwrights - Harold Brighouse, Stanley Houghton and Allan Monkhouse, all originally championed by Annie Horniman, owner of Gaiety Theatre, Manchester, the first regional repertory theatre in Britain. Soprano Anna Netrebko was AWOL. Tenor Marcello Giordani wasn't there. Mezzo Isabel Leonard didn't make it either. At least tenor Richard Tucker (1913-1975) had the best excuse for not being at Avery Fisher Hall on Sunday evening. But, as they say “the show must go on”--and the annual gala of The Richard Tucker Foundation certainly did, despite all the cancellations. Celebrating the famed singer, as well as showcasing the newly anointed winner of its top award, tenor Michael Fabiano, the evening was filled with many pleasures.

Musical Dramatization of the 1913 Trial of Leo Frank - Which Aroused Anti-Semitic Tensions Across the Nation and is Credited with the Creation of the Anti-Defamation League. WHAT: Parade is a musical dramatization of the real-life story of a man falsely accused of murder, brought to emotional and theatrical life by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Alfred Uhry and Tony Award Winning composer/lyricist Jason Robert Brown. In 1913, Leo Frank, a Brooklyn-raised Jewish man living in Georgia, is put on trial for the murder of a young girl who works in his factory. Already guilty in the eyes of the town, a sensationalist reporter and a janitor's false testimony seal Leo's fate. His only defenders are a governor with a conscience and his Southern wife who finds the strength and love to become his greatest champion.

Former Music Director Christoph Eschenbach returns for one of the largest choral-symphonic works ever written, Gustav Mahler's 8th Symphony, on May 9 and 10 at 7:30 pm. Nicknamed theSymphony of a Thousand, Mahler's Symphony No. 8 will be performed by more than 400 musicians, chorus members and soloists together onstage at Jones Hall for an event seen only once before in the Houston Symphony's 100-year history.
