BWW Review: Wacky Christmas in Spaaaaaaaace with CHRISTMAS IS BURNING at Café Nordo
by Jay Irwin - Dec 5, 2016

Welcome aboard the HMS Whooville for your holiday excursion. But don't expect a quick trip around the solar system as the crew takes you on an adventure across space and time and they feed you too! It's "Christmas is Burning" from the folks at Cafe Nordo and Sgt. Rigsby and while the script may be a little thin at times (they say so themselves) the crazy antics and delicious meal completely make up for that.

What happens when the young owner of a failing shoe factory in Northampton, England meets a fabulous London drag queen named Lola? Well, in three words - BIG FAB FUN! And audiences will have the opportunity to witness this thrilling, yet touching musical tale, KINKY BOOTS, when the show takes the stage at the Palace Theatre in Waterbury, CT on December 6th. BWW Interview: Susannah Jones of A CHRISTMAS STORY at Waterbury's Palace Theatre
by Joseph Harrison - Nov 14, 2016

If the word Fragile (pronounced Frah-GEE-lay) or the phrase "You'll shoot your eye out, kid" bring a smile to your face, then you are likely one of the many people who love A CHRISTMAS STORY, the classic 1983 movie that has become required viewing for many families each Christmas season. And, while you may know the story by heart, you have likely never seen it told the way you will if you check out A CHRISTMAS STORY the musical on stage at the Palace Theatre in Waterbury, CT for just two performances on November 18th and 19th. Told with the flair only a musical can bring, A CHRISTMAS STORY puts an unfamiliar twist on the familiar classic. I caught up with Susannah Jones who plays the role of Ralphie's mother, and discussed her experience with the show, life on tour, and even her childhood equivalent to Ralphie's Red Ryder BB Gun.

BWW Blog: Bob Marks - Know Genres and Subgenres
by Guest Blogger: Bob Marks - Oct 31, 2016

When you first start digging into the vast array of musical theatre styles and genres out there, it can be pretty overwhelming. However, don't let this trepidation stop you from jumping in with both feet. You will be amazed with the help of all the great Broadway documentaries and archived recordings available on the Internet how easy it can be to immerse yourself in these classic scores, and immerse you must. Broadway music is traditionally very self-referential, and directors expect working actors to understand basic tropes like the Act I "what do I want" ballad or the eleven o'clock gospel number. Trust me, you don't want to be the only chorus member in Urinetown to miss that  "Snuff that Girl" is an affectionate tribute to "Cool" in West Side Story.

BWW Interview: This is the Moment For Getting to Know Kelli O'Hara in Her Enchanted Evening
by Gil Kaan - Oct 12, 2016

Any Broadway musical aficionado will be very familiar with the mere mention of Kelli O'Hara. Since landing her first Broadway role in JEKYLL & HYDE in 2000, Kelli has become the go-to staple for strong, three-dimensional women - who just happens to possess the voice of an angel. Long overdue for her Tony Award recognition, her name was called for her role in THE KING & I.

BWW Blog: NYC Vocal Coach Bob Marks - Create Realistic Goals
by Guest Blogger: Bob Marks - Mar 15, 2016

A lot of people seem to believe that the ability to sing well is somehow inborn, and that singers fall into two camps: those with talent, who practically come out of the womb singing beautifully, and those who are tone-deaf (suffering from the medical condition dysmelodia), and shouldn't bother trying to sing. The reality is that those are two dramatic extremes which affect only a small handful of people; the other 99 percent of us fall somewhere in the middle.

BWW Blog: Bob Marks - What to Expect at Your First Singing Lesson
by Guest Blogger: Bob Marks - Feb 29, 2016

Although every teacher is slightly different, any good teacher structures the first lesson around the needs of their clients. This is a time for me to get to know you better, and start getting a sense of what sort of short and long-term goals you might have. It's very helpful if in the days before an initial session, you come up with a short mental (or written) list of concrete things you want to accomplish; don't worry, these will change over time, but in the beginning they offer a good launching point.
