Signature Theatre celebrates the start of its 25th anniversary season next fall with an all-new production of Sunday in the Park with George, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical. Directed by Associate Artistic Director Matthew Gardiner and staged in the MAX Theatre, this production marks the first time Signature has produced the play since the theatre's co-production with Arena Stage in 1997.

NY Philharmonic's 'Insights Series' Now Free; 2013-14 Lineup Kicks Off Today

Beginning with the 2013-14 season, the New York Philharmonic's Insights Series - in which artists and experts will explore some of the season's themes and concerts - will now be free, and take place at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center. This season's events will include discussions with Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow during his farewell season (TODAY, October 23); composer-conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and violinist Leila Josefowicz (October 28), who will discuss Mr. Salonen's Violin Concerto, written for Ms. Josefowicz (which they will perform with the Philharmonic in its New York Concert Premiere, October 30-November 5); Music Director Alan Gilbert and Executive Director Matthew VanBesien on the state of the Philharmonic (March 3, 2014); The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman (May 20, 2014), who will talk about Beethoven's piano concertos (which he will perform during The Beethoven Piano Concertos: A Philharmonic Festival, June 11-28, 2014); and discussions relating to the NY PHIL BIENNIAL, the details of which will be announced at a later date. All Insights Series events begin at 7:30 p.m.

EPIX and FEARnet to Present “Maidens of Mayhem” Horror Week, Beginning Today

Let's hear it for the ladies of horror: those evil, tormented women, who have been inhabited by the devil or perhaps chased by a crazed lunatic wielding a deadly chainsaw. Fear not, your nightmares have been answered as EPIX and FEARnet have partnered to present 'Maidens of Mayhem,' a week-long festival of horror films featuring possessed ladies and the men/women and other entities who love them - or want to kill them. The festival begins on FEARnet today, October 14th and moves to EPIX on Thursday, October 17th with a special presentation of the original Carrie (1976) starring Sissy Spacek on the eve of the latest film adaptation of the Stephen King novel, starring Chlo? Grace-Moretz and Julianne Moore. Following the film, EPIX will present a World Premiere sneak peek at the new movie (see full schedule below).

New Language Art Hosts Second Annual Festival in the Hills

On October 19th New Language Art will host their 2nd annual wine, beer, food and art festival from 12 Noon to 6 PM at the Old Sulphur Springs Resort, Union WV benefiting surrounding county artists to include the Monroe Arts Alliance, Giles County Arts Council, the Greenbrier, Summers and Mercer Counties artists. It will be a fun packed event with local wines, beer, foods, music and the artists will have items on display and for sale. Throughout the day, two West Virginia wineries, Watts Roost Vineyard, Lewisburg, VU JA DE, Spencer and American Brewing Meadow Bluff will provide tastings and sale of beer and wine. Local eateries will offer food for sale: 50 East & Vines & Grinds, White Sulphur Springs; The Hall Tavern & The Korner Kafe Union WV; Bella The Corner Gourmet Lewisburg WV and NLA Catering Greenville WW will provide gourmet delights for sale. And threading through all the other enjoyable things to see and taste is the music which will be provided by The Carpenter Ants, Doc Greenberg's Patient Jazz Band, Little Sparrow and Option 22. Salt Sulphur Springs Historic District is a national historic district located at Salt Sulphur Springs (Monroe County), WV. The district includes seven contributing buildings, three contributing sites, and two contributing structures related to the Old Salt Sulphur Springs Resort or "Old Salt." Notable properties include the Old Stone Hotel, Episcopal Chapel, Stone Store Building (1820), Stone Bath House (1820), Stone Spring House (c. 1820), Sweet Sulphur Springs Site (discovered 1802), Salt Sulphur Spring (discovered 1805), and Iodine Spring (1838). It is the area's most significant collection of native limestone buildings and is listed on the National Register of Historic Place in 1985.

Showtime viewers are looking forward to the widely anticipated new series, Masters of Sex, which tells the story of sex researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson. And while Masters and Johnson may have been responsible for a part of the sexual revolution in America, what audiences may not know is how the tools used by these and other sex researchers have helped fuel both progress and oppression. A new Springer title, The Machines of Sex Research: Technology and the Politics of Identity, 1945-1985 by Donna J. Drucker, dives into the history of these machines and their implications on society. The book is part of the series Springer Briefs in History of Science and Technology.

Shirley Herz, a legendary theatrical press agent, died on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. The cause was complications from a stroke suffered on July 18, said Sam Altman, a longtime friend.
