Rhonda LaChanze Sapp, better known by her stage name LaChanze (Creole: the charmed one), taken from her grandmother, was born in St Augustine, Florida.
Grew up in Connecticut, her parents nurtured her love for performing by enrolling her in high schools for the performing arts.
After high school, LaChanze studied Drama at Morgan State University, before transferring to the University of the Arts, she studied Theatre and Dance. Her first Summer job was as a tap dancer in the ensemble of out of town tryout of 'Uptown...It's Hot!.' She made her Broadway debut in the same show in 1986.

Summer in the city begins on July 4th, Louis Armstrong's traditional birthday, when the Louis Armstrong House Museum kicks off its signature summer concert series Hot Jazz / Cool Garden - now in its 10th year. For three days this summer, hot jazz is served up with red beans 'n' rice in the Armstrongs' Japanese-inspired garden. Birthday cake will be served on July 4th and Hot Jazz / Cool Garden series subscribers will enjoy a soul food luncheon too. It's a wonderful world at the Louis Armstrong House Museum.

Artistic Director Braden Abraham today announced Seattle Repertory Theatre's 2016-2017 Season. Philadelphia Theatre Company presents the 2016 PTC@Play Festival of New Work celebrating the American playwright in Philadelphia on March 3-6 at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre. The festival will present staged readings showcasing three new plays by national and local talent including new work by Mark St. Germain, Philadelphia playwright Sam Henderson, and playwright/performer Rinne Groff. A new addition to PTC@Play will be an evening of short plays, all written and rehearsed within one twenty-four hour period. All events are free.

The seventh season of CONTACT!, the New York Philharmonic's new-music series, continues with 'Salonen's Floof and Other Delights,' curated and hosted by The Marie-Jose?e Kravis Composer-in-Residence Esa-Pekka Salonen, featuring music written by him and composers who influenced him. The program features Lutos?awski's String Quartet, Donatoni's Hot, Castiglioni's Dulce refrigerium, and Esa-Pekka Salonen's Floof (Songs of a Homeostatic Homer). The concert takes place Monday, February 1, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. at National Sawdust, which is co-presenting the program.
