 The Jurkowitz Center for Community Engagement is pleased to announce the next film in the "Movies That Matter with Hal Conklin" film series, Say Amen, Somebody, will screen on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 7:00pm, accompanied by a special performance from the Inner Light Gospel Choir. Say Amen, Somebody is a compelling look at the colorful history of Gospel music in the United States, featuring real-life accounts from some of the earliest founders of this form of praise.

After the successful premiere of Faust last fall, The Drama Club (TDC) returns with a new work by Dallas native Terry Vandivort. The Incident is a harrowing, real-life account that begins on a cold night in Dallas in the late 1970's.

Tickets are now on sale for American Composers Orchestra's (ACO) 40th Anniversary Season, under the leadership of Artistic Director Derek Bermel and Music Director George Manahan. This season includes eight world premieres by a diverse set of composers performed by ACO at Carnegie Hall and Symphony Space, and continues the orchestra's commitment to serve as a catalyst for the creation of new orchestral music, providing unprecedented opportunities for American composers to create new work and for audiences to discover it. Founded in 1977, ACO remains the only orchestra in the world dedicated exclusively to the creation, performance, preservation, and promulgation of music by American composers. To date, ACO has performed music by 800 American composers, including 350 world premieres and newly commissioned works. ACO takes its commitment to fostering new work beyond the stage in its annual Underwood New Music Readings for emerging composers, now in its 26th year in New York, and through its program EarShot, the National Orchestra Composition Discovery Network, which brings the Readings experience to orchestras across the country in partnership with American Composers Forum, the League of American Orchestras, and New Music USA.

The Arizona Authors' Association announced the finalists in Arizona's finest literary competition. Winners will be presented in Phoenix on November 5, 2016 at the Association's 35th Annual Awards Gala and Silent Auction. Works by all finalists will be published in the Arizona Literary Magazine 2017 scheduled for release in late Fall 2016.

Irish Repertory Theatre has announced its Fall 2016 Season. On the Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage will be FINIAN'S RAINBOW, adapted and directed by Irish Rep Artistic Director Charlotte Moore, and starring Melissa Errico ('Billions', Encores! Do I Hear A Waltz?), who will reprise her role from the acclaimed 2004 production.

After a ten year absence, Atlanta cabaret and theatre icon Robert Ray returns to the stage (and straps on some high heels) in Out Front Theatre Company's production of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert: The Muiscal!  Ray will appear in the role of Bernadette Bassenger and will belt out classic tunes like "MacArthur Park," "We Belong," "True Colors,"  "I Will Survive" and many more!

The Old Laundry Theatre, Bowness-on-Windermere, in the heart of the Lake District, announces its exciting and diverse Autumn season including GRIFF RHYS JONES' first solo comedy tour with his brand new show Jones And Smith. ALAN AYCKBOURN directs the first major revival of his classic comedy Henceforward. Shattered Globe Theatre is pleased to announce the first two productions of its 2016-17 Season, kicking off this fall with a revival of Pulitzer Prize winner Sam Shepard's quintessential American drama TRUE WEST, directed by James Yost. The production will feature Shattered Globe Ensemble Members Joseph Wiens, Kevin Viol and Rebecca Jordan with Rob Frankel.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announces Ava DuVernay's documentary The 13th as the Opening Night selection of the 54th New York Film Festival (September 30 - October 16), making its world premiere at Alice Tully Hall.

Mandy Patinkin has also joined previously announced cast members Jacob Tremblay, Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson.

Writers Theatre, under the leadership of Artistic Director Michael Halberstam and Executive Director Kathryn M. Lipuma, announces a one-week extension to Company, featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth. The production is directed by William Brown. Company features original orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick, Orchestral Reductions by Ian Weinberger, music direction by Tom Vendafreddo and choreography by Brock Clawson. The show, originally slated to run through July 31, 2016, will add an additional week, through August 7, in the Alexandra C. and John D. Nichols Theatre at 325 Tudor Court, Glencoe.

'Spring is here! Why doesn't my heart go dancing?' - or at least to the theater to be transported to a different world, another time and place where life is transformed and magic happens before your very eyes...

Sometimes it seems there is so much theater happening that it's difficult to keep track of it all. From personal experience, despite all the datebooks, smart phones, tablets, desktop computers and laptops...it's hard to keep everything straight in this wacky business of the show.
