National Veterans Foundation Adopts MAN OF STEEL As Theme Song

A new county song, inspired by wounded warriors, has been adopted as the official theme song of the Los Angeles-based National Veterans Foundation (NVF). Written and performed by Nashville recording artist Grant Maloy Smith, “Man of Steel” is about a soldier's abiding loyalty to his fellow troops, even after being severely wounded and pieced back together with “pins and wires.” Smith, who is known for his top 10 Billboard-charting album “Dust Bowl – American Stories,” got the idea for “Man of Steel” after meeting a wounded warrior during a layover at an airport.

This special concert celebration will feature Sarah Dash singing All The Great Aretha Franklin Classics (including Respect, Chain Of Fools, Freeway Of Love, Ain't No Way, Jump To It), and telling inside stories of her friendship with The Queen. Bernard Purdy, who played in Ms. Franklin's band through the years, will be the musical director for Ms. Dash for these performances.

Alan Alda to be Honored with SAG Life Achievement Award

Award-winning actor, writer, director, producer, polymath and advocate for science communication Alan Alda has been named the 55th recipient of SAG-AFTRA's highest tribute: the SAG Life Achievement Award for career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment. Alda will be presented the performers union's top accolade at the 25th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards®, which will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, at 8 p.m. (ET)/ 5 p.m. (PT).

WNO Presents Ryan Speedo Green In Recital

Named for the groundbreaking African American contralto, the Marian Anderson Vocal Award recognizes a young American singer in opera, oratorio, or recital repertoire with outstanding promise for a significant career. Washington National Opera (WNO) named bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green as the 2018 recipient earlier this year and is pleased to present him in concert today, October 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. Tickets are $39.
