Just last week, Cameron Mackintosh and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Group announced the casting and initial tour schedule for their spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera launching a major North American Tour in Providence, R.I. at the Providence Performing Arts Center. With newly reinvented staging and stunning scenic design, this new version of PHANTOM, the most successful musical of all-time, will be performed by a cast and orchestra of 52, making this one of the largest productions on tour in North America. For years I have been saying that the best kept secret in Ventura County theater is the Ventura County Gilbert & Sullivan Repertoire Company. Celebrating its 10th season this year, the VCGSRC is currently going through its second cycle of the eleven operettas in the canon produced by the venerable English composing team of lyricist/librettist W. S. Gilbert and composer Sir Arthur Sullivan. Its production of The Sorcerer, now playing at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, was the first complete G&S opera, first performed in 1877. It's a marvelous production for the Halloween season, beautifully sung and acted, with a typically witty G&S story, albeit with a serious undercurrent. (more...)

OSF Closes its 2016 Season

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival wrapped up the 2016 season on October 30 with the final performances of Great Expectations, Richard II, Twelfth Night and The Yeomen of the Guard. Porchlight Music Theatre and Artistic Director Michael Weber are proud to announce the final production in the fourth season of Chicago's hit "lost" musicals in staged concert series, Porchlight Revisits On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, music by Burton Lane, book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and based on the book Berkeley Square by John L. Balderston with direction by Lili-Anne Brown, musical direction by Andra Velis Simon and starring Sharriese Hamilton and Karl Hamilton. Porchlight Revisits On a Clear Day You Can See Forever is presented for three-nights-only Tuesday, May 9 through Thursday, May 11 at 7:15 p.m. and is performed on the set of Porchlight's Marry Me a Little (previews begin Friday, April 14) at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave. Tickets are $35. All tickets include access to the popular pre-performance event, Behind the Show Backstory, a multimedia presentation, created and hosted by Weber that discusses that evening's production including the show's creative history, backstage gossip and the state of the art on Broadway that season. New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players Launch G&S Fest 2013, 1/4

New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players, America's preeminent professional Gilbert & Sullivan repertory company, launches its G&S Fest 2013, presenting three iconic productions: The Mikado (January 4-6), H.M.S. Pinafore (Jan. 11th -13) and The Yeomen of the Guard (Jan. 18-20) when the company stages its gala return to NY City Center (West 55th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues) . Under the artistic and music direction of Albert Bergeret, the company has, for 38 seasons, presented over 2,600 performances throughout the United States, Canada, and England.
