Jim Butz, Kevin Kline Award-winner, will play the doomed Prince of Denmark in Shakespeare Festival St. Louis' production of HAMLET, set to open May 26th in Shakespeare Glen, Forest Park. Butz, brother of Tony Award-winner Norbert Leo Butz, is a St. Louis native, and was previously seen at the Festival as Mark Antony in JULIUS CAESAR. Bruce Longworth directs Shakespeare Festival St. Louis' 10th anniversary Shakespeare production, free to the public in Forest Park. Complete casting will be announced in early February.

Gotham Chamber Opera, in partnership with the American Museum of Natural History and in association with American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.), presents Il mondo della luna (The World on the Moon) by Joseph Haydn, in a new production staged by Diane Paulus, director of Hair, which received the 2009 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.

It has been quite a year for Diane Paulus. Already an internationally acclaimed freelance director for nearly 10 years, Paulus began 2008 in London directing the opera LOST HIGHWAY at the Young Vic. HAIR was on the docket for Shakespeare in the Park summer season. And then came the phone call asking if this soon-to-explode director was interested in throwing her hat in the ring for the job of Artistic Director at the famed A.R.T. Theatre in Boston.

A host of British stage and screen stars are set for the upcoming wartime film 'The King's Speech,' surrounding George VI's struggles overcoming his stammer. The film is to be directed by Tom Hooper, most recently of the acclaimed The Damned. Shooting began on the film late last week.

Full casting has been announced for the Royal Court's JOHN MORTIMER AT THE COURT...AND LATER AT THE BAR. The cast will include Broadway stars Jeremy Irons, Alan Rickman, and Harriet Walter. The Shakespeare Society (Michael Sexton, Artistic Director) will present Marlowe vs. Shakespeare: Rivalry, Imitation, and Influence, featuring John Douglas Thompson who plays the title role in the acclaimed Irish Rep revival of The Emperor Jones in a performance that was called "wondrous" by Ben Brantley in The New York Times; Matthew Rauch who currently stars in Still Life at MCC; and Columbia professor James Shapiro, author of the acclaimed book 1599: A Year in the Life of William Shakespeare, on Monday, November 9 at 7:00pm at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, East 68 Street, between Park and Lexington Avenues.

MEMPHIS, an original Broadway musical, will open Monday, October 19, 2009 at the Shubert Theatre (225 W. 44th Street) following critically-acclaimed and sold-out engagements at La Jolla Playhouse and Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre. Previews begin on Wednesday, September 23, 2009.

Mauckingbird Theatre Company will present John Logan's remarkable crime drama, Never the Sinner: The Leopold and Loeb Story, directed by Mauckingbird Artistic Director Peter Reynolds. The company's fourth production follows Mauckingbird's lesbian adaptation of Hedda Gabler (2009) and the critically acclaimed all-male versions of The Misanthrope (2008) and Shakespeare's R & J (2008).
