Our Town, one of the greatest American plays written by Thornton Wilder, the three-time Pulitzer prize-winning playwright and novelist will be directed by David Cromer, MacArthur Foundation 'genius' grant recipient and director of KC Rep's 2009 production of The Glass Menagerie which received national and local critical acclaim. This co-production with UMKC Theatre will feature redesigned seating at Spencer Theatre in the James C. Olson performing Arts Center on the UMKC campus. The show will run tnight, September 5 through 28th.

Ivanov plays today, September 4 through October 5 in Trinity Rep's Dowling Theater.

April 26, 2014 marks the 450th anniversary of William Shakespeare's birth. In honor of this milestone in world culture, Houston Ballet will present dance interpretations of great Shakespearean works by choreographers from three continents: a lavish new production of Romeo and Juliet by Stanton Welch; the company premiere of John Neumeier's A Midsummer Night's Dream, and a revival of John Cranko's The Taming of the Shrew.

Under director/choreographer Rachel Rockwell, a company of 28 actors, dancers and singers breathe new life into the enchanting tale of an 18th century Scottish village that appears every century for one day only -- and the complications that arise when it's discovered by two 20th century Americans. With adapter Brian Hill, Rockwell revisits the libretto for this production, while music director Roberta Duchak and an orchestra of 13 use new orchestrations to enhance Loewe's lilting score.

The Lahu, a mountain residing ethnic group of Southeast Asia and China, are specifically found in the southern Yunnan province of China, northeastern Burma, western Laos, and northern Thailand. Isolated over the centuries by living in remote regions, the Lahu did not mix to any great extent with the neighboring ethnic groups and were unique in their language, culture, and social organization. Until very recently, when anthropologists have begun studying contemporary Lahu groups, few 'outsiders' knew much at all about these people. Plainspeople regarded them as backward, wild people, and they made very little effort to know them. This lack of understanding nearly always resulted in an underestimation of the mentality of these tribal people. In recent times, despite the fact that a few Westerners have come into contact with and learned the everyday language of the Lahu to a certain degree, very few if any have attained the fluency of the deeper terminology the Lahu used, making it almost impossible for modern students of Lahu culture to thoroughly grasp full meanings in their speech, let alone subtle meanings in their traditional poems and songs.
