As part of a 15-city tour, hitting both coasts of the United States, Canada, Turkey, and Eastern Europe, pianist Michelle Schumann will be performing a solo recital on Friday, October 8, 2010 at 8:00 pm in New York City at the Ukrainian Institute of America. Winner of the 2006 Hodges Contemporary Piano Competition, Schumann will present traditional Fantasies by Bach, Mozart, and Chopin interspersed with Fantasies and ‘almost-fantasies' by John Corigliano, Philip Glass, John Adams, Fazil Say, and David McIntyre- contemporary works written since 1975. Schumann's pianistic ‘stylings' morph one piece into the next creating a seamless thread from beginning to end.

The season heralds a bold, new direction for the company. Acorn Productions, a non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing and developing the performing arts in Southern Maine, unveils plans for the 2010/11 theater season. In keeping with Acorn mission to encourage members of the Greater Portland community to experience live theater as both participants and audience members, the company continues to produce three signature events: Phyzgig, the Maine Playwrights Festival, and Naked Shakespeare. This season the company also adds two new series of performances in the Acorn Studio Theater in Westbrook: the Studio Series and Fairy Tale Players. Best known for creating the role of Gaston in Broadway's Beauty and the Beast, Burke Moses has played some amazing leading roles during his theatrical career. In the upcoming Theater of the Stars production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, he has the opportunity once again to pick up the whistle of Captain Georg Von Trapp (he most recently played to role in the acclaimed Toronto production) and command a new brigade of Von Trapp children on stage at Atlanta's Fabulous Fox Theatre. Broadwayworld.com had the chance to talk to Burke about this turn as the Captain, working with children, and the timelessness of this amazing Rodgers and Hammerstein classic.

The Route 66 Theatre Company kicks off its 2010-2011 season with MCMEEKIN FINDS OUT, a new play by Scott T. Barsotti, directed by Damon Kiely. Producers Randall L. Wreghitt (The Miracle Worker, Grey Gardens, Lieutenant of Inishmore) and Jana Robbins (Ragtime, Little Women - The Musical) have announced that they will bring The Great Game, a new drama/play by D. Tucker Smith, to Broadway in the 2011-2012 season. Tony nominated director Sheryl Kaller (Next Fall, Adrift in Macao) will direct the production. Casting and theatre will be announced in the weeks to come.
