New Brooklyn Theater has announced casting today for its site-specific production of Edward Albee's The Death of Bessie Smith at Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn. This rare revival will run for eight performances between January 9 and 19, 2014. Each performance will be followed by talkbacks or panel discussions with leaders in the arts, government, labor, and health. These discussions are intended to raise critical questions about health access, race, class, and the arts in New York.

The story of alleged treachery and bureaucratic co-collaborators working backstage to force Taymor out after creative differences is widely known. In the podcast, the Tony-winner opened up about her work was affected by the issues.

Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman (May 20, 2014), who will talk about Beethoven's piano concertos (which he will perform during The Beethoven Piano Concertos: A Philharmonic Festival, June 11-28, 2014); and discussions relating to the NY PHIL BIENNIAL, the details of which will be announced at a later date. Dallas Theater Center announced today the complete creative team of the world premiere new musical The Fortress of Solitude, a co-production with The Public Theater in New York City. The Fortress of Solitude, based on the novel of the same name by Jonathan Lethem, is conceived and directed by Daniel Aukin, with a book by Itamar Moses, and music and lyrics by Michael Friedman. It will premiere at the Wyly Theatre with previews on March 7, 2014 and run through April 6.

From South Africa comes a stage adaptation of 'Sacred Elephant,' the epic poem by Heathcote Williams, performed by Jeremy Crutchley, a multi award-winning actor of stage and screen, and directed by Geoffrey Hyland. 'Sacred Elephant' is the first of four world-famous, influential poems Williams has written on environmental causes. It was followed by 'Whale Nation' (1988), 'Falling for a Dolphin' (1990) and 'Autogeddon' (1991). Sheer Nerve Productions, in association with BuyArt and Cockpit, will present the American premiere of the work tonight, September 4 to 22 as part of the Summer Shares at La MaMa, 74A East Fourth Street.
