The 5th Avenue Theatre has announced complete casting for Hairspray in Concert, featuring some of Seattle's favorite musical theatre stars and the powerful voices of the 250-member Seattle Men's Chorus. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of Hairspray's 2002 Broadway debut, this unique concert event will play for six very special performances of glorious and irreverent John Waters-inspired wackiness (Friday-Sunday, June 20-23). In 2002, Hairspray was The 5th Avenue Theatre's first world premiere musical to head for Broadway where it won the 2003 Tony Award for Best Musical and launched The 5th's unprecedented track record for sending new works to New York. Now the smash hit musical comes home, as audiences have never seen it before.

The 5th Avenue Theatre and Seattle Men's Chorus join together in 'con-drag-ulating' Jinkx Monsoon, who has taken the nation by storm - emerging from season five of Ru Paul's Drag Race as America's newest Drag Superstar. Jinkx, the drag queen alter ego of Seattle's own Jerick Hoffer, consistently emerged as a fan favorite throughout the season, and captured the crown last night.

It is with great sadness that The Philadelphia Orchestra mourns the death of Wolfgang Sawallisch, conductor laureate of the Orchestra and its music director from 1993 to 2003. Mr. Sawallisch passed away on Friday at his home in Grassau, upper Bavaria, Germany. He was 89 years old. In a special tribute and dedication to him, the Orchestra performed Wagner's Siegfried Idyll to open its Sunday afternoon concert.

Workshopped and developed at Aurora in 2010, SALOMANIA features Madeline H.D. Brown (Metamorphosis), Mark Anderson Phillips (Small Tragedy), Alex Moggridge (Betrayed), Liam Vincent (California Shakespeare Theater), Anthony Nemirovsky (Awake and Sing!), Marilee Talkington (Crowded Fire), and Kevin Clarke (Shotgun Players). SALOMANIA plays tonight, June 15 through July 22 at the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley.

Roundabout Theatre Company has just announced that Tony® Award winner Douglas Hodge will star in a new Broadway production of Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand, with a translation by Ranjit Bolt and directed by Jamie Lloyd.
Cyrano de Bergerac will begin previews on September 14, 2012 and open officially on October 11, 2012 at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway (227 West 42nd Street). This will be a limited engagement through November 25, 2012. The full cast & design team will be announced soon.

Filled with magic, mystery and live music, The Strange Tree Group brings Chicago's ghosts to life this Halloween season with The Spirit Play. The world premiere production is written by Emily Schwartz and directed by Jimmy McDermott, who last collaborated on the smash hit show The Three Faces of Doctor Crippen, which won 2011 Joseph Jefferson Awards for Best New Work and Best Director. Presented in association with the DCA Theater, The Spirit Play will close at the DCA Theater's Storefront Theater, 66 E. Randolph St., in the heart of Chicago's downtown theater district, on November 6, 2011.

I'm Just Wild About Harry is a musical based on Brandon Thomas's hilarious English farce 'Charlie's Aunt' first performed in 1892. Lamb and Reilly have placed this new adaptation in Milwaukee, Wisconsin circa 1910 and added some very fun songs from the early 1900's.

Seattle's Intiman Theatre is currently presenting Arthur Miller's post war tragedy, "All My Sons" with a bit of non-traditional casting. And while the casting didn't detract from the story, I didn't feel it lent anything to it either. But my biggest qualm was not with the casting but with the lack of connection happening on stage.
