A few weeks ago, in a coffee shop on 7th Avenue in Manhattan, two directors sat down for a little shop talk. Kelly McCready was joined by Dave Stishan, both of whom are directing shows in the Astoria/Long Island City area, both of which are adaptations.

Aurora Theatre Company continues its 25th season with Tom Stoppard's (The Coast of Utopia, Arcadia, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead) timeless comedy about an all-too-witty playwright who succumbs to the emotional ravages he puts his characters through, THE REAL THING. Playwright Henry is not so happily married to Charlotte, the lead actress in his play about a marriage on the verge of collapse. When his affair with their friend, Annie, threatens to destroy his own marriage, he realizes that life has started imitating art. After Annie leaves her husband for Henry, he can't help but wonder whether their relationship is fiction or the real thing. Delectable and deeply affecting, THE REAL THING takes a look at the absolute chaos of love and trust, or lack thereof, and the passions that often blur our perceptions.

Twenty-four years ago this Fall, the Northern Kentucky Symphony, now the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra (KSO), took the stage for the first time at the newly opened Greaves Concert Hall on the campus of Northern Kentucky University. Primary Stages, in association with Catherine Adler and Jamie deRoy presents the first show of the 2016/17 season, THE ROADS TO HOME, written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Horton Foote (Harrison, TX).

The Next Stage Theatre Festival returns this January with a lineup of ten theatre companies that showcase the very best indie theatre in the country.

'It was pretty hardcore, you sink or swim; I went into the deep end of the pool, but I was determined and I was just thrilled to be jamming with these guys. Meeting Otis Rush; playing with Buddy Guy, James Cotton, Junior Wells. I can't believe I'm actually doing all this! I was 22, 23 years old.'

CITY OF GLASS, the first part of Paul Auster's landmark three-part novel, The New York Trilogy, will be brought vividly to life in spring 2017 in a dazzlingly original stage adaptation by Tony Award-winning 59 Productions (An American in Paris, War Horse, David Bowie Is) and Olivier Award-nominated playwright Duncan Macmillan (People, Places and Things, 1984). The production premieres at Manchester's HOME in March and then plays London's Lyric Hammersmith from April. It's one of two major theatre commissions for HOME's new season, the other being David Watson's version of Ibsen's GHOSTS, directed by Polly Findlay.

Aurora Theatre Company proudly opens its 25th anniversary season with a revival of the play that started it all, DEAR MASTER. Joy Carlin (The How and The Why, Talley's Folly, Jack Goes Boating) helms this elegant portraitfeaturing Bay Area favorite Michael Ray Wisely (The Letters, The Arsonists) and Aurora's first leading lady Kimberly King (Edward Albee's A Delicate Balance), wife of Aurora co-founder Ken Grantham, who played Flaubert in the original production. DEAR MASTER plays September 2 through October 2 at the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley. DIFFERENT, DAMAGED, DAMNED appears at the 2016 Capital Fringe Festival in Washington, D.C. starting Thursday, July 7 at 7:15 pm; Sunday, July 10 at 2 p.m.; Saturday, July 16 at 2:15 pm; Tuesday, July 19 at 5:15 p.m.; and Saturday, July 23 at 2:15 p.m.

Writers Theatre, under the leadership of Artistic Director Michael Halberstam and Executive Director Kathryn M. Lipuma, announces a one-week extension to Company, featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth. The production is directed by William Brown. Company features original orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick, Orchestral Reductions by Ian Weinberger, music direction by Tom Vendafreddo and choreography by Brock Clawson. The show, originally slated to run through July 31, 2016, will add an additional week, through August 7, in the Alexandra C. and John D. Nichols Theatre at 325 Tudor Court, Glencoe.

No Strings Theatre Company presents Tom Stoppard's entertaining and engaging award-winning play, "The Real Thing" directed by NSTC's Artistic Director, Ceil Herman. The play opens at the Black Box Theatre, 430 N Main Street in Las Cruces runs through Sunday, July 3.

The 70th Annual Tony Awards are this Sunday June 12th at 8/9c hosted by James Corden. It's the biggest award show of the Broadway season and it closes out a long awards season for Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals and plays. We can't help but wonder what chances this year's Best Musical and Best Play nominees have of taking home the ultimate prize.
