Arvada Center to Celebrate 40 Year Anniversary With a Concert By The Colorado Symphony

On July 9, the Arvada Center for Arts and Humanities celebrates 40 years of exceptional art, music and theatre all taking place in its outdoor amphitheatre. The Colorado Symphony, well-known musical theatre actors and members of the Center's Musical Theatre Teen Intensive summer camp will join forces to present a concert celebrating the past while casting a glimpse towards the future. Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra to Present STRAVINSKY'S FIREBIRD, 3/9

PITTSBURGH – FUSE@PSO, the popular, genre-bending early evening concert series presented by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, returns Wednesday, March 9 to Heinz Hall with “Stravinsky's Firebird: Remix | Response.”  For this concert, series Creative Director Steve Hackman has crafted a modern dramatization and remix of Stravinsky's ballet The Firebird. Weaved into the Stravinsky are 12 original songs, inspired by the myth of the Firebird and the original 1911 score, that implement modern pop/DJ/electronica production techniques and tell the story in an entirely new and contemporary way.  It is at once a live remix, concept album and classical masterpiece. Joining the Pittsburgh Symphony are rapper Jecorey “1200” Arthur, singer Malia Cievtz, drummer Gabriel Globus-Hoenich and a 15-person female choir.

Monday night at the upstairs library at The Player's Club, young actor/vocalist Evan Stern collaborated with one of cabaret's treasures, the veteran pianist/arranger/vocalist Steve Ross on a show illuminating the influence of a southern upbringing on the work of iconic songwriter and Savannah, Georgia native Johnny Mercer. The piece was beautifully put together with Stern's intermittent repartee (never dropping a musical stitch), reflecting his skills as an actor as well as a writer.

'If you build it they will come. If you want diversity in the theatre, you have to build that diversity from the ground up. You can't just expect it to happen.' Actor Kingsley Leggs is speaking with quiet intensity about his passion for theatre, music, and dance and his belief that theatre must not only please, but also educate and empower its audiences. These are beliefs he has honed in a long career which has taken him from his native St. Louis to Broadway, regional theatre, and television. As he recounts his story, he is taking a break on what he calls 'a three show day' at Maine State Music Theatre, where he is in the last week of performances of The Full Monty and set to open June 25th in Sister Act. He has just finished the morning rehearsal and will soon head over to the theatre for a matinee and evening show. For all the obvious demands of this schedule, he appears relaxed and animated. He tells the story of how he came to be in Brunswick this summer:

MCC Theater has announced the complete cast for the newly reworked and fully re-imagined production of Carrie, the musical. Carrie features music by Michael Gore, lyrics by Dean Pitchford (Academy Award winning composer and lyricist for the original film Fame) and a book by Lawrence D. Cohen (who also adapted the 1974 novel by Stephen King for the 1976 Brian DePalma film). Directed by Stafford Arima, performances for Carrie begin January 31, 2012, at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC). The official opening night is set for March 1, 2012.
