Tonight, September 13, La Traviata, one of opera's greatest romances, will launch our highly anticipated 2014-15 Season. It will feature an incomparable cast led by our own Plácido Domingo in his first Los Angeles performance as Giorgio Germont, the dazzling Nino Machaidze in her role debut as Violetta and the dashing Arturo Chacón-Cruz as Alfredo Germont. The 1920s come roaring to life in Marta Domingo's updated Art Deco-inspired production under the inspired baton of James Conlon.

Washington National Opera (WNO) has announced that Stephen Llewellyn of Portland, Oregon has won tickets to Opera Ball as part of a Twitter contest called '#operaplot,' which challenged entrants to summarize the plot of an opera in 140 characters or less. Mr. Llewellyn has chosen to donate his prize to long-time Washington, D.C. music teacher, Priscilla Barrow.

Atlanta Opera Zurich General Director Dennis Hanthorn today announced the Atlanta Opera's 2012-2013 season. The Atlanta Opera's 2012-2013 mainstage productions at the Cobb Energy Centre will feature Bizet's popular classic Carmen, November 10-18, 2012; Verdi's tragic and romantic opera La traviata, March 2-10, 2013; and Rossini's comic opera The Italian Girl in Algiers, April 27-May 5, 2013. Season tickets are now on sale for the three Atlanta Opera mainstage productions at Cobb Energy Centre. Also announced were a donor benefits program called MyOpera, a completely new approach to issuing donor benefits in the world of the performing arts; 2012-2013 community engagement initiatives, including the hugely successful 24-Hour Opera Project and High School Opera Institute; and the details of the 2012 Atlanta Opera Ball: A Night in Seville, a fundraiser supporting and sustaining the exceptional artistic quality of The Atlanta Opera. The Daily Mail writes that Rebecca LaChance will play 'Mabel' opposite Michael Ball's 'Mack' at Chichester this summer in a major new production of MACK & MABEL, directed by Jonathan Church. The show opens at the Festival Theatre in July, followed by a UK tour from October.

Washington National Opera (WNO) today announced two free special events in conjunction with its forthcoming production of The Magic Flute. WNO celebrates its sixth season of free opera simulcasts at Nationals Park with the M&M'S® Opera in the Outfield performance of Mozart's classic The Magic Flute on Saturday, May 3, 2014. Gates open at 5 p.m. for “pregame” activities for the entire family. The Magic Flute, which will be performed in English in a new eye-popping production featuring sets and costumes by Japanese-American artist Jun Kaneko, will be broadcast live from the Kennedy Center Opera House to the high- definition screen at the ballpark at 7 p.m. WNO will also present a free exhibition of large-scale ceramic works by Mr. Kaneko in the Kennedy Center Hall of Nations, April 9 to May 19, 2014.

Details were announced today for Opera Ball 2018: ¡Viva La Noche!, San Francisco Opera Guild's signature gala benefit inaugurating San Francisco Opera's 96th season on Friday, September 7. Presented in conjunction with the season-opening double bill of one-act operas, Pietro Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana and Ruggero Leoncavallo's Pagliacci (or Cav/Pag), Opera Ball 2018 is co-chaired by Shannon Cronan and Kathy Huber and features event design by J. Riccardo Benavides and a sumptuous dinner by McCalls Catering & Events. Last presented by San Francisco Opera 15 years ago, Cav/Pag returns next season in a staging by Argentine tenor, conductor and director Jose Cura that sets both Italian classics in La Boca, the Buenos Aires neighborhood known for its colorful architecture and live tango performances.
