THE RUSSIAN STRAVINSKY: A PHILHARMONIC FESTIVAL To Kick Off 4/21

The second week of the New York Philharmonic's The Russian Stravinsky: A Philharmonic Festival conducted by Valery Gergiev, will open with Mr. Gergiev leading the New York Philharmonic in Stravinsky's primitivist cantata Le Roi des étoiles along with two of Stravinsky's neo-classical works: the Violin Concerto, performed by Leonidas Kavakos, and the opera-oratorio Oedipus Rex, narrated by Jeremy Irons, with Anthony Dean Griffey in the title role, along with mezzo-soprano Waltraud Meier (Jocasta), basses Mikhail Petrenko and Ilya Bannik, and tenor Alexander Timchenko in their Philharmonic debuts, and the Mariinsky Theatre Chorus, Andrei Petrenko, Principal Chorus Master, and Natalie Domskaya, Principal Vocal Coach

SF Conservatory And ACT Join To Present SOULS ADRIFT – STRAVINSKY’S SOLDIER’S TALE 11/14

On November 14, elite members of the New Music Ensemble of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and American Conservatory Theater Master of Fine Arts Program students will collaborate for the first time to present Stravinsky's Soldier's Tale, a cautionary parable about a Russian soldier who makes a deal with the devil, trading his beloved fiddle and, unwittingly, his happiness, in exchange for a book that predicts the economic future.

The New Group will presents the world premiere of The Starry Messenger written and directed by Kenneth Lonergan as the first production in its 2009-2010 season. This production plays a limited Off-Broadway engagement from October 26 - December 12 at The New Group @ Theatre Row, with Official Opening Night now set for Monday, November 23 at 8:00 PM. This delayed opening is due to a last minute cast change (Merwin Goldsmith replaced Jonathan Hadary) as previously reported.

The New Group, currently represented Off-Broadway by Ian Bruce's play Groundswell, is pleased to announce its upcoming 2009-2010 season. Leading next season with previews beginning in October 2009 is the world premiere of The Starry Messenger by Kenneth Lonergan, featuring Matthew Broderick. The season continues with a major revival of A Lie of the Mind by Sam Shepard, directed by Ethan Hawke (previews begin January 2010).
