The struggle for freedom and peace among the Tamils in Sri Lanka has been quite bloody and plagued with many controversies. BBC News South Asia posted news articles online revealing the British TV station Channel 4's active support for Tamils over the past years in finding out the truth, while most of the other media have been biased and have been siding up with the Sri Lankan government. Albert present the remount of the Theatre's critically acclaimed production of An Iliad starring Timothy Edward Kane, adapted from Fagles' translation of Homer's Iliad by Lisa Peterson and Denis O'Hare, and directed by Artistic Director Charles Newell. The Michigan Shakespeare Festival is proud to announce a one night only benefit performance of Scenes & Sonnets From Shakespeare on Saturday, November 9th at the Jackson Symphony Orchestra Hall, 215 West Michigan Avenue in Jackson. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and the performance will begin at 8:00 p.m. Conceived by and starring MSF regulars Janet Haley and David Turrentine, Scenes & Sonnets From Shakespeare is an original program featuring scenes and monologues from some of Shakespeare's most famous works, such as Taming of the Shrew, Much Ado About Nothing, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Hosted by Bart and Karen Hawley, the evening will also include delectable hors d'oeuvres and drinks. Scenes & Sonnets from Shakespeare also marks the first program in the MSF's 20th Anniversary Season Artistic Associates Series. The Series is a slate of performances, readings and special events scheduled throughout this winter and spring that will be announced at a later date.

On Sunday, June 16, from 1pm to 10pm, Bang on a Can returns to downtown Manhattan for its annual Bang on a Can Marathon, FREE for the public at Pace University's Schimmel Center for the Arts (3 Spruce Street), presented by River To River Festival and Bang on a Can, and co-presented by Pace University. The Marathon is part of the opening weekend of River To River Festival, kicking off the month-long celebration of free music, dance, film, and arts events. The extensive renovation of Brookfield Place temporarily impacts the presentation of large-scale events in the Winter Garden, where the Marathon has been held for several years. This year the Marathon will embrace the intimate Pace setting to present a few dramatically quiet and tender musical offerings before returning to the Winter Garden's wide-open spaces in 2014.

The Metropolitan Opera's 2013-14 season will feature many of the world's greatest singers, conductors, and theater artists in 26 operas, including six new productions, of a varied repertory that ranges from the Baroque era to the 21st century. Met Music Director James Levine will return to the Met podium for the first time in two years, conducting three operas with which he has long been associated: a new production of Verdi's final masterpiece Falstaff, Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, and Berg's Wozzeck. Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi will be conducting two operas in the 2013-14 season, Rossini's La Cenerentola and Puccini's Madama Butterfly.
