Music Theatre of Denton is proud to announce auditions for RAGTIME, the Broadway musical based on E.L. Doctorow's distinguished 1975 novel. With a book by Terrence McNally and music by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, RAGTIME is considered one of the best musicals on the past several decades. For Music Theatre of Denton, Kyle Christopher West directs with John Norine Jr. serving as musical director and Elizabeth Cantrell as stage manager. RAGTIME runs February 22nd - March 3rd.

Josefina Lopez, Co-Founder of the Boyle Heights Museum and Founding Artistic Director of CASA 0101 Theater and Dr. George J. Sanchez, Co-Founder of the Boyle Heights Museum and a USC Professor of History and American Studies, announced today they will present their third exhibition for the Boyle Heights Museum, ROYBAL: A Multi-Racial Catalyst for Democracy, to be housed in the Jean Deleage Arts Gallery in the lobby of CASA 0101 Theater, 2102 East First Street (at St. Louis Street), Boyle Heights, CA 90033. On October 25th, Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) and Ma-Yi Theater Company presented an excerpt from Lloyd Suh's new play The Chinese Lady, which begins performances on Theatre Row on November 7 and will play a limited run through November 18, 2018. The Women's Media Center announced this morning that Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) will join the Women's Media Center Board of Directors and will give Closing Remarks at WMC 2018 Women's Media Awards on November 1st at Capitale in New York City.

BendFilm announced today 16 films and filmmakers awarded jury prizes at the 2018 BendFilm Festival. BendFilm created two new film categories this year to recognize impactful environmental or outdoor adventure focused stories and Native cinema.

The performance, conducted by ACO Music Director George Manahan, will feature the world premiere of Valerie Coleman's Phenomenal Women performed by the Imani Winds with ACO; as well as the world premiere of Alex Temple's Three Principles of Noir with singer Meaghan Burke, director Amber Treadway, and costumes by Storm Garner. Grammy and Grawemeyer Award-winning composer Joan Tower's Chamber Dance from 2006, which treats the orchestra as a chamber ensemble, completes the program.

Premiere Stages at Kean University will present Martin Casella's 'Black Tom Island' from October 11 to October 21 at the 1882 Carriage House, Liberty Hall Museum. Broadwayworld.com had the pleasure of interviewing Casella about his career and the upcoming show.

The National Hellenic Museum (NHM), 333 S. Halsted St., introduces its newest exhibition - George Kokines: Layers Revealed. On September 20, 2018, the National Hellenic Museum will open the first ever retrospective of the artist George Kokines. Using loaned objects and those from the NHM Collections, this exhibition traces Kokines' artistic development and accomplishments in Abstract Expressionism as well as his journey to embrace his Greek American identity.

Ma-Yi Theater Company - which has had a breakout season with the award-winning success of the musical KPOP, and recently with Mike Lew's new play TEENAGE DICK (at The Public Theater) - announces its 2018-19 season of new works, according to the company's Producing Artistic Director, Ralph B. Peña.  Among the offerings will be world-premieres of plays that have been created and developed through Ma-Yi's celebrated Writers Lab, which has the distinction of being a primary incubator of new Asian American theater and the largest collective of Asian-American playwrights in the world.
