Arsht Center Announces The Return Of 'Marionetas De La Esquina: The Circus'

Now celebrating its Fifth Anniversary Season, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County announced the return of Mexico's legendary puppet company, MARIONETAS DE LA ESQUINA, with a new production sure to thrill and delight South Florida - THE CIRCUS. After a sold-out engagement last season, the troupe will present their special brand of dynamic live puppetry and riveting storytelling on February 26, 2011 at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. and on February 27, 2010 at 2 p.m. in the Carnival Studio Theater in the Ziff Ballet Opera House. Both 2 p.m. performances will be presented in Spanish, and the Saturday 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. performances will be presented in English.

St. Petersburg Opera opens its Fifth season with Stephen Sondheim's musical masterpiece composed entirely in 3/4 time, or in variations thereof. A Little Night Music won the Tony Award for Best Musical when it premiered in 1973. Currently showing in revival on Broadway, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones recently won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a musical for her portrayal as Desiree Armfeldt. The song 'Send in the Clowns' has become a popular music standard and has been recorded by dozens of superstars, including Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand and Judy Collins, whose recording garnered Sondheim the 1975 Grammy for Song of the Year.

The New York Philharmonic will present The Russian Stravinsky: A Philharmonic Festival conducted by Valery Gergiev on April 21-May 8, 2010. The three-week festival - one of several initiatives launched during Alan Gilbert's first season as Music Director - will offer an in-depth look at Stravinsky, exploring how his Russian roots informed his works. Led by the Russian-born Mr. Gergiev, the festival will feature eight programs over three weeks, including concerts, lectures, pre-concert talks, radio broadcasts, podcasts and an Archives exhibit.
