BWW Interview: Surfside Players' Bryan Bergeron Chats GUYS AND DOLLS
by Matt Tamanini - Jan 14, 2016

There are few titles in the American Musical cannon that are as beloved as GUYS AND DOLLS. The show about loveable gangsters and gamblers in 1920s and 30s New York has been thrilling audiences around the world since 1950. With music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and a book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, GUYS AND DOLLS is often held up beside MY FAIR LADY and GYPSY as the epitome of the musical theatre artform. Beginning Friday, January 22nd, the Surfside Players in Cocoa Beach will mount a production of the classic musical, helmed by director Bryan Bergeron. Recently, I had the chance to exchange emails with Bergeron to discuss the show.

New Hampshire Theatre Project to Present THE CRUCIBLE
by Tyler Peterson - Jan 4, 2016

New Hampshire Theatre Project explores New England's own horror story through Arthur Miller's classic allegory The Crucible. Miller wrote The Crucible to protest against McCarthyism and the persecution of all things 'un-American, comparing two periods in American history when a mass hysteria of paranoia blamed all of society's ills on one generalized 'evil' - witches in he 1690's and Communists in the 1950's. But we have seen this happen over and over throughout history; the Japanese internments during WWII are a perfect example. This is what makes Miller's play relevant to every succeeding generation, including our own.

Sometimes it seems there is so much theater happening that it's difficult to keep track of it all. From personal experience, despite all the datebooks, smart phones, tablets, desktop computers and laptops...it's hard to keep everything straight in this wacky business of the show. Thus, we are happy to present a new feature: The Nashville Theater Calendar, a comprehensive - maybe even exhaustive (lord knows we're exhausted from putting it together, gathering all the info from all over the interwebs!) - listing of theatrical openings for the 2015/16 season. We'll update the calendar every Monday, clearing out the shows that have closed and adding additional information on the shows still to come. Something's missing? That's an easy fix: just send us a message here, on Facebook, or by email at jeffreyellis37215@att.com.
