The Hangar Theatre has announced the company's 39th Mainstage Season, which includes two beloved American classics and two regional premieres of cutting-edge new works fresh from Broadway and Off-Broadway. The 2013 season will kick off this summer with the classic American comedy Last of the Red Hot Lovers (June 13 - 29), followed by one of the greatest musicals of all time,Gypsy (July 4 - 20). Next is the regional premiere of 4000 Miles (July 25 - August 3), a highly acclaimed new play, followed by the regional premiere of the Tony- and Pulitzer-winning play Clybourne Park (August 8 - 17). Rodgers & Hammerstein's final show, The Sound of Music, has always had a reputation for being overly sentimental and unbearably sweet. Yet, as originally written, the show has much more of an edge. The Civic Light Opera Company has gone back to the original script by Howard Lindsay and Russell Crouse and it is very effective when done with straight-forward sincerity, as it is here.

The American Film Institute's annual festival announced the line up for its Centerpiece Galas today. Featured in the top spots will be Ang Lee's Life Of Pi, Walter Salles' On The Road, DreamWorks Animation's Rise Of The Guardians and Jacques Audiard's Rust And Bone starring Marion Cotillard. Signature Theatre Company (Founding Artistic Director James Houghton; Executive Director Erika Mallin), announced today seven productions for its inaugural 2012 season at Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street near 10th Avenue), the company's new Frank Gehry-designed permanent home opening in February 2012. Signature Center will allow the Company to expand its programming, introduce new initiatives, and build audiences. Featuring three intimate theatres, a studio theatre, rehearsal studio and a shared lobby with café and bookstore, Signature Center will be both a theatre community hub and a neighborhood destination.
