Gideon Productions (NYIT Outstanding Premiere Production of a Play Award for Advance Man) will present the World Premiere of playwright Mac Rogers' (The Honeycomb Trilogy; Viral) modern horror story FRANKENSTEIN UPSTAIRS, June 14-30 at The Secret Theatre (44 02 23rd Street, Long Island City). The production will be directed by Jordana Williams (The Honeycomb Trilogy; Viral) and will feature Autumn Dornfeld* (The Graduate on Broadway; Beebo Brinker Chronicles at NYTW), Rob Maitner* (Mr. McQueen in the original cast of Urinetown!), Diana Oh (Rob Askins' P.S. Jones and the Frozen City; Mariah MacCarthy's The Foreplay Play), and Kristen Vaughan* (Amelia in The Honeycomb Trilogy; NYIT Award for Outstanding Actress in a Lead Role for Retro Productions Benefactors). The creative team will include Special Effects by Stephanie Cox-Williams, Costume Design by Amanda Jenks, Sound Design by Jeanne Travis, Lighting Design by Jennifer Linn Wilcox, and Set Design bySandy Yaklin. The Geffen Playhouse announces nine plays for the 2013/2014 season: three world premieres/adaptations, three West Coast premieres and two productions of familiar works from Pulitzer or Nobel Prize winning playwrights. The remaining title will be announced shortly. Furthering its mission to introduce audiences to new plays, re-imagined classics and emerging voices, the Geffen's schedule - encouraged by continued growth in ticket sales - is the largest in the 19 year history of the organization.

A May Sky Picture has announced the workshop production of Schuyler Iona Press' WHAT I'M FAILING TO LEARN, choreography by Joel Hanna, music arranged by Jeb Patton, co-directed by Darren Press, written and directed by C. Fraser Press. WHAT I'M FAILING TO LEARN will play a limited engagement at Off-Broadway's 13th Street Rep (50 West 13th Street, NYC). The 2013-2014 season of Washington National Opera (WNO) has just been announced by Artistic Director Francesca Zambello. The season includes Tristan and Isolde, a new production of The Force of Destiny, the East Coast premiere of Moby-Dick, The Elixir of Love, and a new production of The Magic Flute. WNO will also present the world premiere of The Lion, The Unicorn, and Me, a holiday-themed family opera commissioned by WNO and written by acclaimed American composer Jeanine Tesori. A second season of the American Opera Initiative will continue WNO's efforts to commission new American works.

Dallas Theater Center welcomes North Texans into the studio of artist Mark Rothko in the Texas premiere of Tony Award-winning Red, directed by DTC associate artistic director Joel Ferrell. This production turns the 9th floor of the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre into Rothko's studio and gives audience members an intimate look at the brilliant and volatile artist as he undertakes a new commission. This show also marks the first production-specific collaboration between DTC and the Dallas Museum of Art, which will provide patrons and visitors the opportunity to learn about the world of Rothko by seeing the play at DTC, viewing original works of art by Rothko and his contemporaries at the DMA and engaging in special events about the work with both organizations. Red opens with preview performances tonight, February 7 and runs through Sunday, March 24 and is the first show ever to be performed on the 9th floor of the Wyly Theatre.

Can we practice goodness and create a world to sustain it? This question, posed by Shen Tei, the good-hearted, penniless and cross-dressing prostitute of Bertolt Brecht's Good Person of Szechwan, is central to the work of The Foundry Theatre. The play's concerns, and the earmarks of the Foundry's new production, make it an ideal offering from the company, which is celebrated for creating memorable theatrical events while pursuing civic inquiry and social justice. The show, starring the singular Taylor Mac as Shen Tei, is directed by Lear deBessonet and features original live music by 'indie rock vaudevillians' (SPIN) Cesar Alvarez and The Lisps.
