Rubicon Theatre presents a timely and trenchant production of Shakespeare's tragedy KING LEAR as the centerpiece of the company's 20th Anniversary Season. Berkeley Repertory Theatre presents Watch on the Rhine, Lillian Hellman's 1940s political thriller about loyalty, family, and sacrifice. The play, directed by Berkeley Rep's associate director Lisa Peterson, begins previews on Thursday, November 30, 2017 and runs through Sunday, January 14, 2018. By the time Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong collaborated on their first duet together, they were each already jazz giants. Fitzgerald was an acclaimed solo artist for Decca with many hits and more than 200 songs under her young belt, first with the Chick Webb Orchestra and then as leader of her own big band.

Annie Get Your Gun, the musical, is a fictionalized version of the life of  Annie Oakley. Annie's (Devon Perry) ability as a sharpshooter wins her a job in Buffalo Bill's (Gary Lynch) Wild West show. Her brilliant shooting offends the masculinity of the show's star marksman, handsome baritone Frank Butler (Gregg Goodbrod), and makes a romance between the pair impossible. A happy ending only arrives when wise old Sitting Bull (Marshall Factora) gently demonstrates to the naive Oakley that she can easily win the insecure Butler by intentionally losing a shooting competition. The rousing, sure-fire finale hit's the mark every time. With songs such as "There's No Business Like Show Business", "The Girl That I Marry" and "Anything You Can Do" this wonderful Irving Berlin score will score a hit for all of us!

Oh how delightful it was to hear a spectacular overture before a Broadway musical. When is the last time you heard one? We heard snippets of great music to come such as 'Something Wonderful', Whistle a Happy Tune', 'Shall We Dance' and 'Hello Young Lovers' all played by the talented orchestra (the massive 15 pieces) under the baton of Gerard Steichen.

Waterwell announced today the revival of the Blueprint Specials, a series of lost WWII-era musicals composed principally by Broadway legend Frank Loesser to be presented in association with the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum and The Public Theater's Under the Radar Festival. The production will star Tony Award nominees Laura Osnes (Cinderella, Bonnie and Clyde) and Will Swenson (Hair) and be directed by Drama Desk nominee Tom Ridgely.

Show Boat is a musical in two acts with music by Jerome Kern and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. It was originally produced in New York in 1927 and in London in 1928, and was based on the 1926 novel of the same name by Edna Ferber. The plot chronicles the lives of those living and working on the Cotton Blossom, a Mississippi River show boat, from 1880 to 1927. The show's dominant themes include racial prejudice and tragic, enduring love.

New York City Center adds second performance of Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun: In Concert starring Megan Hilty on Wednesday, October 28 at 7:30pm. The previously announced performance on October 27 is part of City Center's annual Gala. Three years after starring in the Encores! production of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Megan Hilty returns to City Center as Annie Oakley in this concert staging of Irving Berlin's classic 1946 musical. Hilty will be joined by a Tony-honored cast including Andy Karl, Chuck Cooper, Judy Kaye, Brad Oscar, and Ron Raines.
