Class Act Books Featurues Series in September

Although its main emphasis is on standalone novels, Class Act Books features many series among its titles. Chief among these is the Three Moon series by Icy Snow Blackstone, the publishers' best seller. This science fiction/futuristic series currently consists of three novels: 'Three Moon Station,' 'In This Kingdom By The Sea,' and 'The Finer Gentleman.' With a running storyline featuring the romance between Katy, a citizen of Terra and Sar Trant, a Tritomitian rancher on a planet resembling Earth's Old West, the first novel, Three Moon Station, was declared one of the best series in sci-fi/fantasy for three years running (2012-2014) by the Paranormal Romance Guild's Reviewers Choice. The second novel was awarded a Critics Choice Award in 2014 by The Paranormal Romance Guild, also. Linda J. Burson's Marcy series, a thriller romance featuring a suspenseful triangle, now has four titles in its list with another expected to be released in coming months. Mystery series include Jack Frost's Jake Colman series about a New Orleans PI and his friend, the governor, fighting vice in Louisiana, and the Hugh Winslow series by RW Weiss where a Chicago detective transplanted to Wyoming solves crimes with the local sheriff. Sherry Derr-Wille's Rhonda Pohs series about a Wisconsin female sheriff has six entries in this cozy mystery series. Combining the paranormal with mystery, Jacqueline Paige's Hidden Senses series features three novels: 'Hidden Perceptions,' 'Dream Visions,' and 'Inner Reflections.' Britisher James Austin McCormick's Dragon series, is a sci-fi/space opera about an elf-like conman and his hulking barbarian companion who find themselves agents of the government. Dragon, Dragon: Smuggler Tales, and Dragon: The Tower of Tamerlane are the current titles. For the mature female reader, Sherry Dare offers her D.O.L.L.S. series about a group of older women who find that passing forty doesn't mean there can't be passion in their lives. Also in the romance line but with more emphasis on action, Toni V. Sweeney has penned The McCoys, seven novels about an Irish family and the adventures leading them from Ireland to Nebraska in the mid-1800's. Combining myth with a contemporary story, Tony-Paul de Vissage's Second Species series features a tale of vampires attempting to settle into human society. The first novel in the series, Shadow Lord, was named one of the Top Ten in Horror for 2013 by Preditors & Editors Readers Choice poll. Class Act Books came under new ownership in 2013 and is now celebrating its third year as a general publisher. Four Thrillers Released by Class Act Books for October

In keeping with the general Halloween atmosphere, Class Act Books is releasing four new novels this month, all with a mystery-thriller theme. Each book is also a new entry in a series. "Shadow Revealed" by Tony-Paul de Vissage heads the list. This novel is number 8 in the Second Species series which will complete next month with the ninth and final entry. The first book in the series, "Shadow Lord," was named one of the Top Ten horror novels of 2013 by Preditors and Editors Readers Poll for that year. "Death is Magical" by RW Weiss, is another Hugh Winslow mystery, set in Lodgepole, Montana. Bringing more of that town's quirky characters and unusual happenings, this story ties together the death of a racehorse and jockey in England with the murder of one of Lodgepole's long-time residents. It is the fourth in the series. Debut novelist Linda "Burson's Rage" brings the story of a woman whose title emotion embroils her in deception, murder, and heartbreak. In Jack Frost's novel "Stacked Deck," detective Jake Coleman enters another struggle against Louisiana gangsters as he aids New Orleans District Attorney Trey Greeley's bid for governor. Politics, betrayal, and murder definitely mix in this third entry in the series. Class Act Books is in the second year of new ownership. Class Act Books Announces Last Entry in Paranormal Series

This month, Class Act Books released the final entry in the award-winning paranormal series, 'The Second Species.' The series about the aventurieri, a group of people believed to be the origin of the vampire myth, a 'Second Species' of Mankind, centers around Marek Strigoi's search for the killer of his parents. Hiding from humans threatening to kill them, the aventurieri seclude themselves in the valley of the Carpathian Mountains except for an occasional exile sent into the outside world. When Marek Strigoi disobeyed his sovereigns orders in an attempt to find the renegade who murdered his family, he's banished to Europe where he has to blend with humans as he and his brothers continue their hunt. Shadow Lord, the first entry in the series, was voted one of the Top 10 Horror Novels of 2013 by Preditors & Editors Readers Poll for that year. It was also honored with an award from the Maryland Romance Writers. Shadow Liege, comprising the ninth and final book in the series, was released on November 15. Tony-Paul de Vissage is a writer of paranormal/horror fiction whose novels has received many awards. He currently has twenty novels in publication by Class Act Books, including two series and a boxed set. His horror novel, The Night Man Cometh, was a Top 10 Finalist in Horror in the Preditors & Editors Readers Poll for 2011. His Southern paranormal novel, The Last Vampire Standing, was honored by the Paranormal Romance Guild as a Reviewers Choice in 2012, as was his Mayan paranormal, Dark God Descending, in 2013. His horror novel, Absinthe, was chosen for an award in M/M Historical Horror by the Guild in 2014. Two short stories, 'Blood will Freeze' and 'Unpath'd Waters, Undream'd Shores' were named two of the Top 10 Finishers in Horror and Sf/Fantasy short stories for 2012 by the Preditors & Editors Readers Polls for that year. Class Act Books Announces Schedule of June Releases

Mystery and the Paranormal plus returning authors and series head the list for Class Act Books' June releases: Deeded for Death by RW Weiss Shadow Duet by Tony-Paul de Vissage. RW Weiss' cozy mystery Deeded for Death is a Hugh Winslow novel, the second in the series, following last year's release Death is Overdue. Set in Montana, this novel proves the seemingly mundane world of realty isn't as safe as it seems. Except for the detective part, author RW Weiss resembles his fictional counterpart. When he isn't writing, he also is an amateur artist as is Hugh Winslow, portraying his Montana countryside in both his paintings and his novels. The cover for Deeded for Death was done by Class Act Books artist Blaise Kilgallen. Shadow Duet is the fourth novel in the Second Species series by Tony-Paul de Vissage, the other three (Shadow Lord, voted one of the Top Ten horror novels of 2013 by Preditors and Editors Readers Poll, Shadow Players, and Shadow Passion) were released by Class Act Books in previous months this year. Telling the story of the twins in the vampire Strigoi family, Shadow Duet combines some wayward misadventures in love with revenge into a deadly package. Author Tony-Paul de Vissage is a descendent of French Huguenots, and writes of the paranormal in Southern settings, usually on or around New Orleans. His own fictional adventures with vampires are chronicled in the whimsical anthology The Clan Andriescu. Further entries in the series will be released this year. July's releases from Class Act Books feature another entry in the Dark Urban Fantasy series The Second Species as well as Science Fiction and Horror. They are: Dragon: The Tower of Tamerlane by James Austin McCormick, Shadow Law by Tony-Paul de Vissage, and Fear the Sky by Rick McQuiston Shadow Law, Book 5 in the Second Species series, continues the story of the Strigoi clan's pursuit of Mircea Ravagiu, murderer of their family and the reason they were exiled from their Carpathian home. In this novel, the pursuers and the pursued finally come face-to-face. Tony-Paul de Vissage currently has seventeen novels published with Class Act Books. The series which follows the search of vampire Marek Strigoi for the murderer of his family., Book 6 is a pivotal novel in which Marek and the killer come face-to-face and the scholar-turned-hunter has to make the decision to become as ruthless a killer as the man he's seeking or show his family's killer more mercy than he gave them. The dark urban fantasy/horror novel is the author's 17th novel published by Class Act Books. The first in the series, Shadow Lord, was voted one of the Top Ten horror novels of 2013 by Preditors and Editors Readers Poll, and also placed 3rd n the Maryland Romance Writers 'Reveal Your Inner Vixen' contest in 2009. 'Commonwealth' by Michael D. Smith is a Dystopia Black Comedy of a United States in which there are no private ownerships. National Museum of Natural History Scientist Torsten Dikow Discovers New Species of Assassin Fly

National Museum of Natural History scientist Torsten Dikow discovered and named a new species of assassin fly,Burmapogon bruckschi, after studying the first two specimens ever preserved in Burmese amber. For more than 100 million years, assassin flies have ruled the world of insects as a top predator. The lineages of these ancient creatures, known for their ability to catch and prey upon nearly any other insect, were previously only studied in limestone fossils dating back to 112 million years. Details of the new discovery are published in the April 21 edition of American Museum Novitates. (more...)
