KING ARTHUR Plays Water Works Theatre Company, 7/27-8/8

Water Works Theatre Company is excited to announce that Lane Riosley's The Commedia Tales of King Arthur will be its second annual daytime family show as part of the 10th Annual Shakespeare In The Park in Royal Oak. Tickets ($6) are now available online at www.waterworkstheatre.com. The family oriented comedy, perfect for children of all ages, will be performed Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 7pm as well as Saturday and Sunday mornings at 11am July 27 - August 8 in Starr Jaycee Park - 1101 West 13 Mile Road, Royal Oak MI 48073. A complete performance schedule follows this release.

The Irish play that led to riots in the streets of Dublin when it debuted 103 years ago and became a comic masterpiece, The Playboy of the Western World, opens the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival's 19th season. With previews June 16 and 17, the play opens June 18 in the Schubert Theatre and continues through July 3.

Playwright Kwame Kwei-Armah Pens Laurie Cunningham Biopic

According to Deadline.com Award winning playwright Kwame Kwei-Armah is working on a script for a biopic about 1970s soccer star Laurie Cunningham. The film is entitled 'Black Flash.' Cunningham was the first English player to join Real Madrid, the most successful soccer team from Spain. Cunningham was also the first black player to represent England at any level (under 21), and the first to represent the full England side in a competitive match, although Viv Anderson had appeared in a friendly before him to be recognised as the nation's first black full international.

That two Lehigh Valley theatres were awarded separate grants from the National Endowment for the Arts signature program, 'Shakespeare in American Communities/ Shakespeare for a New Generation' is unprecedented. Outside major metropolitan areas around the country, no other community the size of the Lehigh Valley has received two grants in one year. Forty non-profit theatre companies across the U.S. won the $25,000 awards.
