Firehouse Theatre begins its summer with a bang as we travel back to the counterculture of the '60s for POP!, a new musical with book and lyrics by Maggie-Kate Coleman and music by Anna K. Jacobs. Directed by Jase Smith (Rocky Horror Show, RENT, Reefer Madness) and sponsored by the Binger Center of Yale Repertory Theatre and The Lewis and Butler Foundation, POP! runs July 11 - August 10, 2013 with an Opening Night performance and reception on Friday, July 12 at 8pm.

Sometimes there's nothing as hysterical as hysteria. That's the main premise of Reefer Madness, currently produced by Doctuh Mistuh Productions, a musical satire about the dangers of marijuana. The show, which splits its run between the Spiderhouse Ballroom and the Dougherty Arts Center, is an absolute laugh riot.

Doctuh Mistuh Productions has announced its upcoming production, REEFER MADNESS, THE MUSICAL. The production will be directed by Michael McKelvey (B. Iden Payne Award, Sweene...y Todd and Assassins) with set design by Joe Carpenter (Mary Moody Northen Theatre) and costumes by Glenda Barnes (B. Iden Payne Award, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson). The performance location and additional production staff will be announced shortly.

The production, directed by Robert Richmond (Othello and Henry VIII at the Folger), stars Zach Appelman (War Horse on Broadway) in his Folger Theatre debut as Henry V, and will run from tonight, January 22 - March 3, 2013.

Individual tickets for Minneapolis Musical Theatre's (MMT) Reefer Madness and Sunset Boulevard go on sale at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 5. At long last. There has been a lot of discussion lately about the role of Hollywood actors on the Broadway stage, especially following the Tony Awards -- where bonafide A-List movie stars Catherine Zeta-Jones, Scarlett Johansson and Denzel Washinton all picked up acting awards. In all three categories (best leading actress in a musical, best featured actress in a play, best leading actor in a play), these Hollywood heavyweights beat out theatre actors who are arguably just as talented, if not as well known to the world outside New York.
