Producer Stephen Gabriel/Work Light Productions released today a music video in anticipation of the 50th Anniversary North American tour of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's iconic musical Jesus Christ Superstar. The Olivier Award-winning production first premiered in 2016 at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre in London. The North American tour launches in Austin, TX in the fall of 2019 and celebrates fifty epic years since the original rock opera concept album release that began this musical theatre phenomenon.

Tony Award-winning costume designer, JESS GOLDSTEIN (currently represented on Broadway with Jersey Boys and On the Town), and scenic designer DOUGLAS W. SCHMIDT are among the 2015 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards recipients. The awards will be presented at a ceremony on Friday, May 1, at 6:30pm, at the Hudson Theatre (145 West 44th Street). Mr. Goldstein was selected to receive the 2015 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design and Mr. Schmidt will receive the Robert L.B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design.

San Francisco Opera General Director David Gockley and San Francisco Opera Association President Keith Geeslin today announced that Gockley will retire in July 2016, concluding a ten-year, seven-month tenure with the Company and capping an internationally acclaimed and award-winning career spanning 44 years as one of America's most prominent opera impresarios. Gockley, who will be 73 at the end of the 2015–16 season, became the Company's sixth general director when he joined San Francisco Opera in January 2006. Today's announcement was made at a War Memorial Opera House press conference.

The Center for Contemporary Opera (CCO) is proud to pay tribute to composer Hans Werner Henze, who died in 2012 at the age of 86, with performances of his El Cimarron (The Runaway Slave), featuring baritone Eric McKeever in the title role. Not performed in New York since 1986, El Cimarron has music direction by Sara Jobin, and stage direction by Eugenia Arsenis, singled out as stage director by Miguel Barnet, author of the book upon which the opera is based. According to Variety, producers Mike Medavoy and Bobby Geisler are developing a revamped film version of The Gershwins' opera Porgy and Bess. Medavoy and Geisler are collaborating with the Gershwin family and lyricist DuBose Heyward's estate for the updated film.
