The Left Wing, in association with John Turturro, presents the world premiere production of Brandon Cole's Imperfect Love, a serious comedy in two acts. Directed by Michael Di Jiacomo, Imperfect Love is inspired by the tumultuous life of the great Italian actress Eleonora Duse (1858 1924) and her nine-year love affair with the poet and playwright Gabriele D'Annunzio (1863 1938). The production, which runs January 25 February 18 at The Connelly Theater, features costume and set design by the Academy Award-winning Italian designer Gianni Quaranta (Merchant-Ivory's A Room with a View, Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet) and is scheduled to open on February 4. Turturro's 1998 film, Illuminata, which was co-written by Cole and Turturro, was based on Cole's Imperfect Love.

The National Puerto Rican Day Parade (NPRDP) announced that the upcoming Parade scheduled for June 11th, 2017 on Fifth Avenue, will mark 60 years of celebrating Puerto Rican history, tradition, and achievement.

Westport Country Playhouse will present a Script in Hand playreading of DRACULA, the mystery-thriller about a young woman falling victim to a vampire, on Monday, November 16, at 7 p.m.  Director is Anne Keefe, Playhouse associate artist and curator of the playreading series. The play is dramatized by Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderston, from the novel by Bram Stoker.

YALE SCHOOL OF DRAMA has established two new scholarships with a $100,000 gift from The Frederick Loewe Foundation: the Frederick Loewe Musical Theatre Scholarship, which will be awarded to a playwriting student who demonstrates particular interest in musical theatre composition; and the Frederick Loewe Directing Scholarship in honor of Floria V. The Seattle Theatre Group has announced the next beloved silent film series at the Historic Paramount Theatre. Now in its 11th year sponsored by Trader Joe's, the ADORED AND RESTORED Winter Series focuses on the importance of film preservation and the art of cinema by presenting some of the most influential films from the silent movie era. Each film was a 'special pick' by one of STG's partners and includes a CineClub discussion led by a film professional. The story at the heart of Death Takes a Holiday has taken many forms over the years. It first came to life (so to speak) as La Morte in Vacanza, written in 1924 by the Italian writer Alberto Casella. Originally billed as a 'supernatural comedy,' it was to be Casella's only major success outside of his home country, but what a success it was. Coming to Broadway in 1929, the play was seen in a popular English-language version by Walter Ferris and was first given the title Death Takes a Holiday. After that production's success, the play was also made into a beloved 1934 film starring Fredric March and would continue to appear in many forms over the following decades.
