Lotus World Music & Arts Festival Celebrates 25 Years

The 25th annual Lotus World Music & Arts Festival will fill the streets of downtown Bloomington, Indiana with sights and sounds from around the globe (September 27-30, 2018).  Thirty international artists, free large-scale art installations, and events for all ages will fill 14 downtown Bloomington venues with palpable energy and an eclectic blend of global sound and spectacle. Venues range in style from the historic Buskirk-Chumley Theater, to contemplative church settings, to pavement-quaking outdoor dance tents and even a pop-up 360° video-immersion space. Music genres span continents and cultures, including Colombian marimba, Hawaiian hula, Malian desert groove, high-energy Congolese soukous, Swedish folk rock, contemporary American string music, and more.  A complete list of artists is available below or at lotusfest.org.  All-inclusive, weekend, and single-day passes are available for online, phone, and walk-up purchase via the BCT Box Office.  

MYSTERIES OF THE ABANDONED Returns to the Science Channel

The vast, decaying remains of 200 buildings are sprawled across almost 2,000 acres of land deep in the heart of Georgia. It is the remnants of the Central State Hospital, once the largest psychiatric hospital in the U.S., which in the 1960's was home to over 12,000 patients. These and other long forgotten structures will be deconstructed and rebuilt with advanced CGI in season three of MYSTERIES OF THE ABANDONED, which begins Tuesday, October 2 at 9 p.m. on Science Channel.

Mississippi Museum Of Art Receives $275,000 NEH Grant For Reinstallation Of Its Permanent Collection

The Mississippi Museum of Art (MMA) has been awarded a $275,000 grant by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). The grant was given in support of the MMA's reinstallation of its permanent collection and the creation of accompanying public programming and publications that focus on the art and stories of Mississippi. The reinstalled permanent collection is scheduled to open on Saturday, June 29, 2019.

BRIC presents Alchemy, its major summer 2018 exhibition, featuring the work of seven artists reconceiving non-conventional materials in a reflection on the ancient concept of alchemy-the transformation of matter (June 28 - August 12). Employing diverse media, these artists create visually layered statements about the body, gender, race, and the environment. Their work, which includes large-scale installations and work commissioned by BRIC, also manifests the potential for the spiritual to be drawn out from the quotidian world around us.

Virginia Repertory Theatre Presents WEST SIDE STORY

Virginia Repertory Theatre announces the opening of West Side Story on Friday June 22, 2018 at the November Theatre/Arenstein Stage, 114 West Broad Street. The show will run through July 29, 2018.  Previews will be on Wednesday, June 20 and Thursday, June 21, 2018. With a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by legendary Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim, this classic musical retelling of Romeo and Juliet is set against the backdrop of New York's Hell's Kitchen in the 1950's.
